swissie
Had some corn planted but due to lack of rain the crop can only dry on the stalk and then be used for chicken feed only. Nevermind. I will not be here for quite some time, so I will not replant anything. During my absence, my neighbor and his goats will keep the weeds in check. But now the question: I can imagine, that even goats are not too keen to eat the brown and dried corn stalks. Should I cut them down and just burn them or should I let them standing in hope that the goats will even eat those stalks ? = If I was a goat, I would eat my way around those dry and hard corn stalks and go for the juicy weeds ! HeHe. Well, cut them and burn them or let them stand ? Thanks & cheers.
WatersEdge
No need to cut and burn... just leave them standing. Natural decay will knock them down while you are gone. Goats will eat around the dry stalk without any problem. It's better to avoid burning anything on the field, as the natural material holds moisture on top of the soil
