I am about to move jobs to a new company (both within Bangkok), and I'm currently on a Non-Immigrant B visa with an extension of stay which is valid until next year.

Can the work permit and extension of stay both be transferred to the new company without requiring me to go to another country and get a new Non-Immigrant B visa? If so, what needs to be done by my current and/or future employers to ensure that this happens in the correct way?

Thanks in advance! smile.png

That is only possible if you can get the new work eprmit within 7 days!

On the last day of your employment you visit the labour office and immigration to cancel your work eprmit and extension of stay. At the labour office you apply at the same time for a new work permit, while at the immigration office you apply for a 7 day "extension". That gives you 7 days to get the new work permit and go back to immigration for an extension of stay based on your new work.

So make sure that all the paperwork is ready. many don't succeed in time and do indeed need to get a new non-B visa.

Thanks for the reply. Has the system changed recently? When I left my previous job 2.5 years ago it was easier I'm sure...

Anyway, for the 7 day extension, do I need anything other than the 1900 Baht fee?

Normally a passport size photo for the form and maybe a copy of passport and arrival card.

No, it didn't change recently. It has been this way since Oct. 2006.

Thanks for the further reply Mario.

To cancel the Extension of Stay (just prior to getting the 7 extension), what documents are needed? Is it just my passport and letter from my current employer confirming that I've finished working there?

Yes, go to the labour ofice and immigration with a letter from your employer clearly stating the last day of your employment. I believe the labour office will give you a form, confirming that you have cancelled your work permit.

Extension normally require copy of passport, passport size photo and copy of arrival card.
