Its an age old one. Had a male friend who did exactly that in Argentina about 10 years back using msn.

Agree with Semper. Men can be idiots in this sense. At one point i joined tagged (couple of years back), was single at the time, and wanted to make new friends, and possibly more. Had a few photos up and made a separate msn account. Added a couple of people, several guys. My web cam broke and one guy offered to send me one. Didnt even ask, nor make any story about not having money to buy one, was an out and out offer. Declined. Honestly, its almost like some guys just want to give money away. I guess they equal buying things with being wanted. Im not saying i didnt appreciate the offer, it was kind, but i felt wrong taking it (and i didnt wish to give out my home address). Other women might not think the same way and see it as easy takings. So, in some cases the women dont even need to scam ..the guys actually WANT to offer.

I have been 'taken advantage' of by more Australian women than Thai women in a financial sense. To be fair, no one was ever sticking a gun at my head at any time I was handing over money and I could simply not have given any: So who is responsible? Me of course.

Now I am older, and while maybe not wiser, certainly more grounded and experienced. It was a valuable and not too expensive education in life really. I'm quite philosophical about it.

There can't be many men that have not given money to or been scammed by a woman or women in their own country. Who ever heard of having a woman who didn't want your money, if you allowed them to get their hands on it?

When I first started surfing the 'dating' sites some years ago (I was 50's) I had women from all over Asia who wanted to be my 'friend' very quickly. I started playing the field with Filipino, Thai, Chinese etc etc and within a fairly short time the majority of Thai girls were asking for money. I say the majority because there were a few that didn't but they were not from Issan or related to poor families anywhere in the country. They were the ones that were a bit older (30's up) and had decent jobs, and their priorities were not particularly geared to fast bucks. They already had their own computers and had taught themselves some English. The poor ones were using Internet Cafe's. The range of money the girls asked for was between a few hundred Baht and 500,000 Baht to buy a new car. I can say that none of the Chinese girls I had relationships with, and there were a good few trips to China, never once asked me for money. They always said they would like a responsible man that would love them and have a long term stable relationship. I would point out that none of these girls were from poor families either and I think this is the key with the large numbers of Thai girls who are on the make. It's to do with the amount of poor families that exist in Thailand where all the pressure is put on the young girls to provide for the family. It may be true that they think we Farang are all stupid, and indeed some really are, but the main driving force is family pressure and they will do anything to relieve that constant burden.

I agree with most of you wrote, but I would add that not only the poverty that puts the pressure on these ladies but their family and there is a large proportion whom see the easy money and than form a lifestyle around these activities. Until they don`t find the real big fish they never stop doing it even if their finances seem to be all right.

However, as they may be saying or writing false and insincere things (so too may be the men, of course) then 'exploiting' might be a more suitable term. Well, good luck to them. I don't think that deceiving others is fair just because they are on a lower wage. So you actually believe that their activity is rightly justified.

I've been a regular visitor to Pattaya for 13 years and in that time I've become friends with around 20 fellow British men. Of this score of men I know for a fact that at least 4 of them have at on time or another sent money to Thai girls for varying amounts and for various reasons. Not outlandish sums but one off gifts of around 5,000 baht or regular payments of between 10,000 and 20,000 baht a month. Bear in mind these are just the ones I am personally aware of so of those 20 blokes it could well be more than 4.

It's quite likely that out of the 20 blokes each of us know who go to Pattaya a similar percentage are sponsoring these girls to a similar degree. That can easily equate to thousands of foolhardy punters.

Two of these blokes have given their girls babies and married them so that's fair enough but the other two were just taken for a ride until the penny finally dropped or their employment status took a nose dive. One of them, a regular visitor to Pattaya who should know better actually fell for the on line dating caper!

These blokes are ruining things for the rest of us and to a degree are taking these lasses off the market and maybe that's why the quality of the girls and their attitude has deteriorated over the last few years.

There's no fraud here, it's a simple rental agreement.......here's a copy the rental contract........

At this point it's the equivalent of Farmville, an internet game that gets you emotionally involved in the upkeep of others, in fact Tamogochi is probably a better example, cabbage patch dolls?

Where it get's out of control is when the poor guy really falls head first into it and heads for the airport after selling his house and telling his boss to ram it. Incidentally there are plenty of women who fall for it too, and many Thai women have been ripped off by reverse stings.

It's a fantasy that can run out of control, it will exist as long as there are lonely and gullible people out there, and bizarrely, sometimes it does have a happy ending.

ps It cost me 30,000 baht to keep the pet mosquito going through intensive care, but in the end, it died. I loved that mosquito.

Oh I get it now, you are the OP. This is one of those newby education posts. You have just come to Thailand and now you are an expert on Thai women as opposed to Cambodian and Philippine women.

I guess I should tell you there are thousands of posters on Thai Visa who have lived in South East Asia for years and years including Cambodia and the Philippines and now live in Thailand because they have discovered the truth of the ages.

Now you are in the "my girl is different stage." Give it 7 years. Some get out of that stage earlier some later. Some even get out without loosing a fortune or jumping off a tall building. Good luck from all of us at Thai Visa.

Of course it has happened to me. It happened to me in Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines in the 1960's and again all over Thailand in the intervening years. I would not give advice unless it happened to me.

Why would you start posting on a forum of experts on SEA without testing the water a bit first. There are about 10,000 other posts dealing with "My Thai lady done me wrong." What, do you think you are posting something new?

I must admit last week I have gone out with both old Thai ladies and modern day Thai girls. It's fun.

I take it your wife is a good girl. Educated, Hi So Thai/Chinese is the norm on Thai Visa. Get with the program. And welcome but read a bit before posting might be a good idea.

Oh I forgot, the latest trend in saving poor SEA ladies is from Burma. Cambodia and Philippines are yesterday.

I met a lady via the internet, I didn't send any more to her, I flew in, met her at Swampy, and went on holiday with her. She was stunning, we fell out after a week, ( more to the point I fell out with her, she was WILD!!!! ) and sent her home to BKK on a bus, instead of flying her back from Chiang Mai.

I felt guilty about that later and I ended up sending her about 5,000 baht. I was angry with myself for abandoning my duty of care for her, it doesn't matter how angry you get with someone you always have to remember that duty of care, and I let myself down. So the money I sent was what I saved by sending her back on a bus instead of a flight.

Now I know that story doesn't fit in with the OP, however it does show that it's possible to meet beautiful, ( and by the way, she was jaw droppingly beautiful ) women via the net. WITHOUT PAYING A PENNY!!!

She really was wild though, a typical BKK Party Girl.
