Passport Renewal

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have been on thai visa for a good few years now, but have forgot my password and email address, so I have had to start a new account.

I was known as scotty123456789 before.

Anyway, the wifes Thai passport is due to expire in december, inside her passport is her settlement visa and also her ILR.

What I need to know is, how do I go about getting her a new passport? can it be done by post? do we have to go in person? and does her ILR have to be transfered to her new passport?

Thanks

Lee

As you do not say in which country you and your wife are living, it is impossible to fully answer your questions!

However, clues in the above post and others you have made indicate that it is the UK, so I will proceed on that basis. If it is not the UK; ignore the following.

She can renew her passport at the Thai embassy in London. She has to attend in person so biometrics can be taken. See หนังสือเดินทาง Passport

As she has ILR her settlement visa will have expired and so can be ignored.

She can transfer her ILR stamp into her new passport, but it costs £220 by post and a whopping £661 in person!

But; her ILR stamp will still be valid even if the passport it is affixed to has expired. What most people do is simply carry both old and new passports so the ILR stamp can be shown when required..

Also, when you marry in Thailand is it registered in uk?

We married in the village at the amphur, should I have registered it too in the uk?

Or is it automatically registered under uk law??

Hope so, been married 4 and half years

Right, do we need to make an apointment to renew my wifes Thai passport? or can we just turn up?

Do we need to fill in some sort of application before we go? or is it all done at the embassy?

Is her Thai i.d card all we need to take (photo copy)?

Also, can my wife change her surname to mine at the embassy, if we take marriage certificate?

Confused...

It is registered at the ampur where you registered it. You do not need to register it again in the UK.

Under the Foreign Marriages Act of 1894 any marriage which is legal in the country where it took place is legal in the UK.

She can ask for her new passport to be in her married name; take the marriage certificate.

She needs to fill in an application and make an appointment.
