Did they require you to show ticket out of Thailand?

Just bought a ticket for my brother... Hoping he doesn't run into any issues regarding this.

All airlines are required to confirm the visa status of all passengers, if they do not have a long stay visa they are required to prove an onwards ticket.

Can it be any type of ticket (bus/train/plane) printed from an email??

Or alternatively a full price return ticket on arrival in Thailand cancel ticket and get a refund for the return leg..

I wouldn't recommend that approach since the refund is based on the portion used, they will subtract the cost of a one way ticket from the round trip cost and give you the change, about forty six cents usually. Best bet is to buy a one way BKK/Kuala Lumpur or Singapore or Hong Kong and refund it later.

Any air ticket that gets him out of Thailand, prior to the date immigration states he must leave, will work.

As already said, persons eligible to enter Thailand for 30 days as a tourist without a visa must be able to show immigration on arrival that they hold a valid return or onward ticket dated to leave the kingdom within 30 days.

In 12 years of regular travel to Thailand I have never been asked by immigration to do this.

However, if I were and did not possess one then I would be refused entry.

International agreements/regulations mean that if airlines carry a passenger who they know does not meet their destination's entry requirements and that passenger is refused entry at their destination then not only is the airline liable for the cost of returning that passenger to their departure point, they can also be fined a substantial amount ($20,000 sounds familiar, but I any be wrong on that).

This is why most, if not all, airlines will not carry a passenger to Thailand unless they have a valid visa or a return or onward ticket dated correctly; even if that passenger is eligible for 30 days visa free entry as a tourist.

Will work perfectly, the thing to do is remember why the regulation is in force. AA and other airlines may be required to repatriate at their own expense. They want to see the responsibility for this taken off them. So the best thing to do is book a flight on a regional low cost airline that will not have any computer hook up with AA and then just add that to his Itinery, You dont even need to buy the ticket, just show you are booked on a low cost airline out of Thailand before his visa expires.

Why doesn't he have a Non Imm B visa, then? Onward tickets aren't required for visa holders -- only for those entering on 30-day visa exemptions.

Confusing, if he is coming to work he shouldn't be arriving as a 30 day tourist. Maybe have a look at the pinned visa section.Jim

As has been mentioned, better to gt soem papework from the employer and with that apply for a non-B visa in the US. Saves the hassle of needing a ticket out and doing visa run.

The return ticket deal happened to me on United in 2010 and I was totally unprepared. We ended up with me buying a refundable return for like $ 1700, no worries though, I refunded it. The next long term trip which I am here on now, I bought an Air Asia ticket to P Phen for about 1500 baht, ended up not using and also did not need it, coming over from the States on an Asian based airline. Better to spend the little money up front though because they don't tell you until you are at the counter, like 2 hours before takeoff !
