June 3, 201214 yr Hi all, Some advice or help from someone that has done this before. I am born British and have a child with my Thai wife. I am currently in Thailand and hope to return to the UK soon. What is the correct application for a Passport for the new bore? I have read the doc many times but find them rather ambiguous. Do i just apply for the passport from HK,? Do i have i first register the child with the UK Consular? Do i have to apply for citizenship first? Their seems to be so many options i am not sure of the correct process Any help Thanks Edited June 3, 201214 yr by Astin
June 3, 201214 yr Don't forget to apply for a Thai passport as well. The child should leave and enter Thailand on the Thai passport and enter and leave the UK on the UK passport. Regarding UK passport there is some information here: http://www.thaivisa....y-post-payment/
June 3, 201214 yr Register the birth at the Embassy, then apply for a passport (also done at Embassy in BKK). A question - Were you born in England, as one of the rules (I believe, so do not quote me) is that if you were not born in the UK then your child cannot get British Citizenship, best to check first.
June 3, 201214 yr No need to register first. Just apply for passport. Done via Hong Kong. Quote from the British Embassy website:- "Consular birth registrations do not confer British nationality and are not required to register your child as a British citizen or to apply for a British passport as British nationality is passed from parent to child. Your child will need to have an automatic claim to British nationality in order to register their birth. There is no requirement for a consular birth registration to be done for any birth that has occurred overseas. The original birth certificate issued by the authorities in the country in which the birth took place, along with a notarised translation if necessary, is sufficient for all purposes in the UK (including passport applications)." June 4, 201214 yr Gentleman UK Passports for first time applications go through the Embassy in BKK. http://ukinhongkong....me-applications This page provides information for anyone in Thailand who is applying for a British passport for the first time (this includes adults and children who have not had a British passport before). You must apply for your British passport at the British Embassy in Bangkok. Your application will be forwarded to the UK’s Regional Passport Production Centre in Hong Kong for processing.
