Mosquitoes In Hung Clothes

Featured Replies

So I took down my cleaned and dried laundry this morning to find a swarm of mosquitos coming out of everything from my shirts to my socks. Admittedly they were left out maybe a couple days more than necessary.

I've read that mosquitoes can and will lay eggs in wet clothes if no still water is around, and that's a dengue/malaria risk.

I live in Bangkok though, but has anyone experienced this before and should I give 'em one more wash to kill any buggers?

This happens a lot. Dengue risk is low enough in Bangkok to not be too much of a concern and the time of year is wrong. Malaria is always a risk, but again is low enough in Bangkok not to require overt paranoia.

You can look at reducing mosquitoes in one area at a time, but you will never win and you'll never have a life. Try to minimise dark spaces in your living area and ensure a flow of air through the room. This is the best option. That and being realistic. This is a tropical/sub tropical country, we get mosquitoes.

Wash them again if it helps you, I'd just shake the clothes down, hang them up in a breeze/direct sunlight for an hour and then put them on.

This looks like the sort of thread which gravion might have started. You're not related, are you?

No, I varg.

As mentioned above, mosquitos will tend to hide in dark areas during the day. You can use this to your advantage by putting a dark plastic bucket or even a cardboard box with a smallish opening in a dark corner under cover outside. Before the sun goes down head out and give the bucket or box a blast of bug spray and you will find that you get a large proportion of the local population in one hit. I found this to be very effective in Pattaya.
