Yes it helps having the extra time to prepare for Tuesdays game, get Rooney in for extra training he needs it.

Mata should be played behind Rooney and is not a right winger.

Smalling gets better and better the defence seems a lot more organized but it should be with the quality in front protecting it ....playing two holding midfielders 4-2-3-1 is not helping the service to Rooney(i suppose that is what happens when you buy to many <deleted> midfielders instead of strikers) can't undestand why Januzaj was playing centrally instead of Mata

Full backs looking strong now,Blind quieltly doing his job and the pig getting fitter and showing the undoubted quality we bought him for soon he should be up to play 45 minutes!

Memphis looks like he is on viagra but cannot find a bird at the moment.

1-0 1-0 can't complain about the results only the way in which we are doing it.

United starting to play like the old Arsenal

Herrera or Mata behind Hernandez until Rooney gets back into form, Blind had a excellent game.

Darmian, Bastian, Schneiderlin have all settled in well only Depay has not shown His worth yet.

Schwienstieger just oozes class he came on and controlled the game.

I agree with comments by Nev & Mr Red, still reckon Smalling should get an extra mention as he is starting to show signs of maturity and was my man of the match.

Have to agree about Rooney, looks out of sorts on his own up front and for me he should be playing the No. 10 role behind the striker (the one we don't have as yet)

Early days yet and will wait 'til next month to see what are chances are for the season ahead.

For me it is obvious Van Gaal wants Otamendi to partner Smalling and with both full backs and the goalie we should be ok...Blind is ok but we need another strong and phsical presence with Smalling.

Up front we need a Van Nistorooy like player...Pedro is very similar to Mata and is not an out and out striker.

At times in the game last night we were very lively and hungry in the middle which won the game for us yet we still lacked the final pass and creativeness,no doubt this team will get better and stronger and so will Rooney.

Agree with what is being said about Smalling there were signs at the tail end of last sesaon that he was coming good, great athlete.

Blind was ok, acually got MOM with Sky Sports Football but maybe because he didnt give the ball away as much as Smalling. Bastien looked very solid just adds

the soidarity and composure and why wouldnt he. Thats is probably the worst game I have ever seen from Rooney in his whole United career, his first touch

was terribe. He is for me a worker not a central striker should be playing the number 10 role. Maybe Hernandes with his pace might get the nod on Tuesday.

As you correctly say leungKen its early days and 2 games, 6 points and clean sheets but LVG indicated as much there is a lot of work to be done.

Would not be surprised to see Rojo alongside Smalling, height and a touch of aggresive nature about his play. Expect Evans, Lingard,Lindegaard,Blackett to be either sold or go out on loan before the window shuts.

When first watching Jones a couple of seasons ago I thought he had promise, now I'm still waiting for the promise to develop into the finished article.

Maybe he's a slow developer.

P.S, Can't wait to see how we go against Bruge on Tuesday night. (Please can we have some adventurous attacking football Louis)

I reckon the away leg will be a cagey snooze fest. Anyone here seeing headlines on google that Muller is on the way to United? Click bait?

Sorry, home leg first. I expect an improvement in attacking and a professional 2-0 win.

We have Fellaine back for this, I say play him up top and lump balls up to him all game,at least we might get a few more efforts on target.

Well lvg did for the last 7 minutes and he did more in 7 mins than Rooney did all game, he caused havoc and scored a very important goal.

We did OK after they went ahead, Memphis is some young player, scored two fantastic goals and should have had his hatrick.

Two goal cushion going into next weeks 2nd leg is good but the away goal could be costly.

Maybe if he could get more than 3 games together without illness or injury he might show his worth.

Has thrombosis now. Smaling was in a similar situation and I think we were all questioning his ability but he seems to have come through and would think LVG's

first choice at CB.

We had another young player who I thought was going to be first class one Nick Powell, represented England from Under 16 -Under 21 went out on loan did ok.

Came back went out on loan again to to Leicester and was sent back to United as they considered his efforts at training were not up to scratch.

Now he seems to have disappeared.Surely not another young English player who has fallen from grace.

I watched that match last night.

Memphis £25M - Sterling £49M laugh.png

I certainly hope you get the 49 mil BB. It'll mean we've won the Champions League and Premier League (twice I think it was).

Time will tell whether the 44mil (plus add ons) was a worth while investment but I'm happy with what I'm seeing at the moment. He's giving us some good extra options (particularly his pace) and he was pivotal in the weekends demolition of Chelsea.

Ok so if it was 19M difference it is still a massive disparity in price for potential. It just amazes me.

Totally agree. No City fan would think 44mil was a bargain and we all think we paid too much for potential in a player but in todays mad money world I haven't a clue what a bargain is anymore.

You must be gutted Stevie letting him go, yes he does look good but for me he has to improve on his finishing to be called a bargain.

I don't disagree Stevie, regarding improving City, I said it after one game on the City thread. I just can't get my head around the price and the comparison to Memphis was a good example. Also, in my opinion, he still still that one pass short, that final finish short.

I'm not bitter....much smile.png
