Surin To Phnom Penh Visa Run

Featured Replies

Has anyone made a visa run from Surin to Phnom Penh and if so, what is the easiest route?

Probably get more response in Thai visas, so moved.

Easiest route (and possibly most expensive) is get to BKK and fly to PP.

You have two nearby border points - Chong Chom (greedy b4stards!) and Chong Sa Ngam (in Sisaket). The latter is far more user friendly.

You say visa run, for what purpose ?

If you are looking for the cheapest way of getting to PP and acquiring a visa (tourist presumably) then it is shared transport from Chong Chom (more choice - as does Aranyapatet but is is a bit further away) to Siem Reap and then a shared minibus or public transport to PP. From Aranyapatet you can get direct to PP and there has been a recent thread on that.

If money is not a factor and you want to make a holiday of it you can fly to PP or, go through Chong Chom and have a couple of nights in Siem Reap.

Be advised that PP takes 4 days to issue a visa, as opposed to 2 days in other neighbouring countries.

A trip to Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos might be easier.

Thanks for the info... I will be going for a tourist visa and I understand that it will take 4 days and that's fine. It will give me a little break from the village life. I've made the run before but I drove down to Koh Kong and took the bus to PP from there. I was just hoping that I could make it easier on the wife by going through Chong Chom. Anyways, thanks again... The info will be very helpful.

You can be in Siem Reap in 4 hours. I believe that there are agents there who will arrange the TV - you and the missus can enjoy Siem Reap and Angkor Wat.

If you are prepared to book a taxi, the crossing at Chong sa Ngam is more comfortable (probably only $20 - max $25 - for the visa). You can park at the new border point as well.
