Where To Go For A Couple Of Days On The Beach?

Not easy given time of year and potentially tricky weather in many places. For more or less guaranteed good weather outside Thailand try east coast of Malaysia (Perhentians, Redang or Tioman), east coast of Sabah (Sandakan, Sipadan), or further afield Bali or east coast of Sri Lanka.

Nowhere direct flights, but Air Asia to KUL opens up all these options in 2 flights from CNX.

Went to Sihanookville to dodge Songkraan recently. It's Cambodia's beach front.

Like a smaller Hua Hin without the girlie bars.

Very cheap.

A CNX/BKK/Phnom Penh Plane trip return cost 6000 baht (advance booking air asia) and a 5 hr bus trip ( I think about $14).

Very enjoyable and lots to do or not do.

Recommended despite the bus trip which is not that bad. Has a 30 min break in it.

Bali is a great choice this time of the year it is there low season and not the wet season. Last time we went was with Singapore Air 500 baht cheaper than Air Asia and had a 20 kilo limit on baggage.also served meals It was about 3 hour stop over in Singapore. Booked with a travel agent the prices may be different now.

The Balinese are a Hindu culture and very friendly. That is not to say other cultures are not friendly. Plus English is widely spoken.

If one was to go Air Asia They would book CM to KL then KL to Bali. All in one day. Coming back Bali to Bangkok Bangkok to CM all in one day. coming back through KL requires a overnight in KL

Singapore one day each way.

AirAsia fly direct to Bali (DPS) from Bangkok daily. A very good option. Stay away from Kuta, Seminyak just up the road from Kuta, 45mins from the airport is nice, and if you want to splash the cash on a top hotel, I can definitely recommend The Oberoi.

Plenty of other places to visit around but if you only have a few days then that would be perfect.

The problem with that is he is in Chiang Mai and there is only the one flight to Bali a day and that is at 6:15 in the morning. Like I said go CM to KL then to Bali all in one day.

as someone else posted, for this time of the year I would also recommend Tioman Island. Flight to KL from CNX. maybe stay a night in KL or take a bus to Mersing and stay the night (in the state of Johor). Next morning ferry at 9am to Tioman. My preferred beach area is Salang Beach. Its a duty free island and alcohol is very cheap. (if thats part of your holiday enjoyment). English spoken by mostly all. Other parts of the island do have at least two 5 star hotels if thats what you are looking for. You could also fly Berjaya air to Tioman island from KL Subang airport. Perhentian Island is the other option off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Langkawi Island is accessible with many flight from KL but like Phuket, the seas might be a bit rough with the monsoon season. Beach and Island is beautiful though and lots of duty free shopping. Car rental really cheap and very nice to drive around the island including to the east side of the island to Kuah town. Beautiful beach around Burau bay with two hotels, Mutiara Burau Bay and Berjaya Langkawi. Main beach area with many restaurants and some bars are however at Cenang Beach.

can 2nd sihanookville... wish it wasn't so far away bus wise... but cheap beer on the beach (15baht) and relatively cheap rooms (aircon from $12 or so)... find the popular backpacker guest house (GST? or something starting with a G), then go away from there up the road several kilometers and there are bungalows and guest houses right on the beach....

skills says smaller hua hin without the girlie bars...i've always thought of it as a small chiang mai with a sea smile.png

maybe on the way back can stop and see angkor if she hasn't seen it already... though this is a bit of a trip by bus from sihanook to siam reap

Yes it is a bit of a trip but if you haven't been there before well worth it.

Too bad that Myanmar is not that more tourist friendly and easily accessible because looking at a map, the closest seaside to CM is Mayanmar. Still no direct flights??

Another recomendation for an island hopping vacation is the Philippines, but the typhoon season is just beginning. 7,100 islands.

Myanmar is very tourist friendly in terms of the people and sights. Infrastructure is very shaky in terms of roads and rail, but if operating on a reasonable budget internal flights make it very doable, and there are some decent places to stay. Now they have VOA again trips from CNX to Myanmar are pretty simple.

There are direct flights CNX-RGN on Air Bagan Thu & Sun, and Air Mandalay is still thinking about restarting its CNX-MDL flight.

Philippines, especially Palawan, are a great trip but not this time of year as noted above.
