I currently live on Samui. I love it. But, I am thinking about moving to Pattaya for work reasons.

Not wanting to create another Samui v Pattaya thread, but I don't think I want to go and live in a big city.

If I was based in Jomtien how far would I need to travel to be able to live somewhere more laid back and less developed?

Is there a rush hour in and out of Jomtien?

10 minutes to Huay Yai from Jomtien, the feel of rural Thailand with quick and easy access to Jomtien and Ban Amphur beaches and seafood restos, easy access to Makro, Tesco, Big C, a good environment with friendly locals, convenient for all the golf courses around, quick and easy access to the motorways if you want to go south to Rayong or north to Bangkok without having to go near pattaya, it feels like you could be a hundred miles from Pattaya here!!

I've lived in all parts of Pattaya including the raucous Walking Street. Jomtien, if you have a good companion, would be a nice place for me BUT I love eating at the malls in central Pattaya. That in addition to the gym, movies, etc.

Living in Jomtien always meant going over the hill or by Sukhumvit and I find both dangerous.

In Jomtien perhaps but certainly not in Huay Yai.

I took it from the OP's comment "If I was based in Jomtien how far would I need to travel to be able to live somewhere more laid back and less developed?" that he was intending working in Jomtien and looking for a relaxing place to come home to? which is why i figured Huay Yai would be ideal.

Lenny, you're spot on. I'll check out Huay Yai for sure. I'd like to live somewhere not high rise and chilled out.
