Since they have a multiple entry visas they can just go across the border and get another 90 days when they re-enter the country.

The longest extension possible is 7 days unless they are your children under 20 and you are on an extension of stay they could then get a 1 year extension.

This type of visa is usually good for a one year period.

Each entry to Thailand will get you a 90 day stay.

On the 89th day of their entry stamp...that is 1 day before their entry stamp expires, they need to go to the nearest border entry point.

They then exit Thailand, making sure they get stamped out as exiting Thailand.

Then, having exited Thailand, they can simply re-enter Thailand....and they will be stamped into Thailand for another 90 day stay.

That is known as a "border run"

If you they are staying in Bangkok there are visa services who will do this for a fee...usually to Cambodia.

This can be done in a 12 hour day trip from Bangkok, no need to stay any longer than a couple of minutes in Cambodia unless you want to.

They will need to purchase a Cambodian visa to enter Cambodia.

The border run and visa run service I used included the required Canbodian visa in their all-inclusive fee and transportaion to the border was by a 16 passenger van....with about a 1 hour stop at the border.

Not sure about other locations in Thailand....but there must be services offering similar trips to Laos, Malaysia, and Myammar (Burma).

From Bangkok the van left early in the morning and returned to Bangkok about 5 or 6 in the evening.

You can find such services by going a Google or Yahoo search on-line.

As best I can recall, cost was about 2000 Baht per person...all included.

Take some spending money....they stop at least once to and from the border for a toliet break and you can purchase snacks during the bfreaks and at the border.

Call and book a place ahead of time.

As I said from Bangkok basically a 12 hour day trip by van...bring a camera for "tourist" shots of the countryside on the way.

Actually there is no requirement for it to be the 89th day as such a visa is not limited in the number of entries during the validity of the visa so if an earlier date is convenient it can be used - the key point is you can not stay longer than the 90 days you obtain on entry without extending for a valid reason.

I knew most of that. Sorry if not so clear. I was asking what was the longest they could extend whilst in Thailand when first 90 days are up. They remain in Thailand for a few days after their first 90days expires, before I then return from work to meet them. I was just wondering what was the max extension they could get here, ( paid in immigration in BKK) so we could all then go out together and they wouldnt have to deal with the overstay.

First guy said 7days is that right, or do you know different ?

Thanks again.

7 days to leave is a disapproved application for extension so normally that will be all they can obtain without a valid reason for a longer extension (which they do not appear to have). It will be up to immigration if they will actually accept such an application while having a valid visa in passport however. Current policy appears to be more relaxed than in the past when show of airline ticket out could be asked. There is organized border runs from most location which would get them a new 90 day stay for about the same cost.

They could make the border run any time during their 90 entry and get another 90 days.

There are a lot of places they could do the border crossing and even make it part of a sight seeing trip to a neighboring country.
