The missus and i plan to go back to the Uk in April.(for 10-14 days) I have downloaded the form from the website but have a question or 2.

It gives a choice of which visa(not the length).

Working holiday-NO!

Returning resident-NO!

Work permit holder-NO!

A non- EEA dependabt of an EEA national- NOT SURE!!!

Or other. - NOT SURE!!

Which one should she tick?

Section 3.5 Is your spouse/civil partner travelling with you?(If yes please note they should complete a seperate application) <deleted>. Surely that doesnt apply to me?

Section 5.5

Do you have family or any close friends there?

Will that include my friends that are also friends with the wife? Confused!!! Or since we are married will that include my family.

We both have money in the bank, letters from bothe employers and also a leter of invitation from my mum. Any more things we should supply? Heaps of pics etc and should we buy flights now or wait? Confused guys.

Thats it for now guys. If you can help then thanks in advance.

Jockstar,

Tick the "family visitor" box at the top of the first page and "6 months" for the validity of the visa.

Section 3(5) - answer "yes - he's a sweaty sock"

Section 5(5) - answer "yes, my husband's family". You don't need to list them all by name.

You seem to have enough evidence, but take your marriage certificate and a translation in case that's asked for.

Scouse.

Thanks scouse. Piece of piss. She/we went on Friday. I had to stay outside the embassy with the other husbands. Anyway she was in for about just under 2 hours. Had an interview for about 1 minute she said. Job done. Pick up passport Tuesday. So as you can imagine she is over the moon.

Congrats on your success.

I'm hoping to soon have the same reason to celebrate but I too have been finding the requirements of the VAF1 form less than obvious. I think that I've got it more or less sorted but there are still two areas that I'm not sure about so maybe someone out there can help.

The GF and I are not married yet and she has never met any of my family in UK. I am sponsoring her visit and shall be travelling to UK with her. I'm resident in Thailand and have no UK domicile, by the way. So:

Q 3.5: 'Is your spouse / civil partner travelling with you?'

I'm not legally either a spouse or civil partner so do I just tick the 'NO' box or should I just treat this question as if we are married?

Q 5.5: 'Do you have family or close friends in the UK?'

I feel that the correct answer should be 'NO' as even though I am a UK citizen I don't live there but I can't help but feel that this will give the wrong message to the ECO. I can certainly give the names of my family members as friends but they do not really qualify as she has never met them.

Any thoughts, anyone?

Thanks

She is not your spouse nor civil partner, so Q3.5 is "No." Likewise Q5.5 is also "No."

However, you should write a covering letter briefly explaining the length of your relationship and the reason for the visit. Provide evidence of the relationship as well, photos etc. and if you live together, proof of this.

The reason they ask these questions is partially because family visit visa refusals can be appealed, whereas non family visit refusals can't. Unfortunately as you are not married this will not be classed as a family visit, unlike Jockstar's wife's application.

However, as you, her sponsor, are resident in Thailand, I would imagine that you will meet with success as easily as Jockstar; provided they are happy that the relationship is genuine.

That's what I thought I should put on the form and I have written a letter that explains everything.

The supporting documentation is about 1 inch thick - I have provided everything that we feel that the ECO could possibly need.

The rub is, after spending all the time and effort on the preparation, the GF now says that she doesn't want to go to the Embassy because she is scared of the interview!! I think that she would have no problem with it but I can't force her to go. I could take her warmly by the throat though! :o

Guys.... I have a similar question and hope you can help... Im now in the process of marrying my Thai GF and also filling in the online visa for her to come to the UK, My ideal situation would be that she can come to visit the UK and my family and stay for a while and also find some work / part time work while she is there, we dont plan on staying in the uk permanently as she has a business in Thailand but it would be nice to spend maybe 6 months in Uk and 6 months in Thailand, on the online application I can choose either visiting family or choose settlement and she applies saying she is my wife... which one will allow her the option to seek employment in the UK ? Thanks in advance for any help given.. Mike
