July 23, 201213 yr Nuclear is on its way out - the sooner the better. Just from an economic perspective, when all's running smoothly, nuclear looks ok. However, when a nuclear plant goes bad, it can go very bad, and related costs skyrocket. Who is going to provide comprehensive insurance policy for a Thai nuclear power plant? Thailand needs to look to alternatives for power production. Some alternatives, like wave power, and power from river flows and even thermal can be implemented, small scale, for communities near those resources. There are many Thai towns situated close to coastlines, rivers and some are close to hot springs. Most power is generated by either heating water or having pressurized water - to turn turbines. Thermal is pre-heated water. Iceland and Japan have some of that harnessed. The #1 most important thing Thais need to learn for an energy policy, is; USE LESS POWER. Currently, Thais use much more electricity than they need to, and there's no social movement to change that. The average 7-11 has dozens of of lamps, dozens of motors, and over a half dozen floor mounted refrigeration units. The places are cooled, even when the ambient temperature outside is cool. It's almost as if they're trying to use as much electricity as possible. None have a skylight. None have a swamp cooler or tinted windows. None have solar. It's a microcosm of how Thais waste electricity.
July 23, 201213 yr Thank f... for that! Can you imagine the Shinawatra administration in charge of a nuclear generator...??? I can't imagine any Thais running it, why pick on the Shinawatra administration (signally) Homer Simpson does Thailand
July 29, 201213 yr USE LESS POWER. Everyone seems to forget this very important point. Correct...so get the f*kc off the internet and stop bleating about wasting power... go and dig a well or something
July 29, 201213 yr China's Three Gorges Dam project activated its last 32 electric generators this month and the dam now produces more electricity than 15 nuclear power plants, however, the dam will never contaminate the planet with radiation. http://www.businessi...am-video-2012-7 Edited July 29, 201213 yr by ronz28
July 30, 201213 yr Recent discussion by nuclear experts of the extreme consequences of operating nuclear power plants follows. Thailand should consider these extreme risks and choose some of the other safe methods of generating electric power. Edited July 30, 201213 yr by ronz28

July 31, 201213 yr Base power is what is connected to the electricity grid 7/24/365. There is a level where power consumption never falls below on a system and increases with the peak load . Peak loads can be supplied by switching in other plant, eg, hydro, gas turbines or in some cases diesel generation. The effect of solar PV and wind generation on a large grid system is negligable. August 8, 201213 yr U.S. Freezes All Nuclear Power Plant Licensing Decisions from http://ens-newswire.com/?p=47633 Its about time the nuclear power industry is forced to admit to and consider in any planning for a nuclear power plant, the disposal of that perpetual radiation poisoned spent fuel rods from nuclear power plants instead of pushing it off to future generations to figure out how to deal with it for eternity. U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit that spent nuclear fuel stored on-site at nuclear power plants “poses a dangerous, long-term health and environmental risk.” From ens-newswire.com Edited August 8, 201213 yr by ronz28
