Bad idea, she doesn't have the time for it, she will have to clone herself; a clone of a clone won't be pretty, like making a photocopy of a photocopy...

Of course she is qualified....did we not see her a little while ago in her uniform with all those medals ?....if she takes the job, it could be a good thing...she could retain Burberry to design the new uniforms

I think Hugo Boss has some previous experience with such assignments...

She smiled back to reporters without saying anything when asked if she would concurrently hold the defence portfolio.

Has she ever done anything else?rolleyes.gif

Sukampol was commenting on speculation that he would be removed because he has failed to respond to the government's policies in seeking tighter control of the armed forces.

I guess it is pretty clear where the army stands in regards to this government, and its not with them

If there is going to be a reshuffle and she is made the defense minister, who will be the PM?

What qualifications does she posses to be a defense minister? has she done any military service? security courses? or anything even remotely related to defense?

Why not make her something like cultural minister, so she can travel the world, dress to impress and smile, thats a perfect job for herthumbsup.gif

As defence Minister her first job will probably be to defend some or all of those ludicrous statements she keeps coming out with:- minimum working wage, free tablets for all schoolkids, guaranteed price for rice, no floods this year, and so on and so on.....

Really interesting to know rather than what this article is about, rather what has caused it to be published? Does the said Newspaper have someone inside the PTP, or is this a puppet of other political factions? Thai news often post articles without quoting, revealing or at least hinting to sources, it is extremely frustrating and makes articles hard to believe as fact (as many readers here have laughed at the article too).

The return of the previous Prime Minister/Insider Trader/Land extorter/Computer salesman to the Thai Police would cause serious disharmony within the Kingdom, and may I speculate that it may even lead to violence from within the army, Police and general populace. A large number of people want him back, but a group nearly as large (and better funded in most cases) do not want him back. The reconciliation bills currently being passed to allow him back are not what the other side see as "reconciliation", it is only reconciliation for one side. It may be better phrased as "revenge bills".

If harmony is ever to return to Thailand, the Shinawatra family, and all extended relatives must leave politics, and both the burning of buildings in central Bangkok and also the shootings of women and children inside the unnamed central Bangkok temple by men in black must be investigated and mercilessly prosecuted on all sides and angles.

It must be made understood by Thai people that it is OK to have a divided nation as long as everyone is cared for equally.Supporting only the poor, or heavily supporting the rich will never work because there is no middle class to balance out the negatives of the losing side. The battle is not for rich or poor, but lack of middle class and corruption from both sides preventing this true middle class from forming.

Follow the rules of law and social equity? Heaven forbid.

Well, true to form, she is sitting on the fence. Let's hope she falls on the right side when decision time arrives.

She will fall in one direction, down. the question is, how hard.

Well, it just came to me in the shower the reasons why the PM needs to become Defence Minister

1. It keeps all the positions of prime importance within the immediate family

2. She is running low on excuses to further avoid having to act as a PM in the House, so needs to be able to be off inspecting various Army units in various locations throughout the Kingdom.

3. She feels that if there are enough Photo Op's with her wearing combat clothing, sitting on tanks and in the latest Saab Gripen fighter jets she could make it to "Times most powerful Woman on Earth'.

Some reasons why she should NOT be Defence Minister.

1. She has already destroyed the education budget for years, with a 'tablet for every school child'. What could she do to the Armed forces? Major projects would be abandoned but perhaps Thailand would qualify as the worlds best dressed Army. Gone would be the traditional military jungle boots, in would be shin high Burberry combat boots, in kid leather with gold plated lace eyelets. Gone would be traditional combat clothing with disruptive pattern and in would be the latest matching Burberry urban camouflage, perhaps with matching facial camouflage cream from Lentheric. Anti hair tangle from laboraitoires Garnier and a bergen from Louis Vuitton would complete the new dapper super soldier.

2. She does not need the money.

3. She is as much qualified to be a Defence Minister as I am of being a short sighted Gynecologist. I guess we could both scrape by but there would be something fishy about the whole thing.

Actually, defence is spelled with a "S" not a "C". So it should be "Defense". Except maybe here in Thailand. I was going to ask what gives her the idea that she is qualified to be the Defense Minisiter, but got another cup of coffee and woke up. TIT coffee1.gif

Just because your US spell checker says defense, it is very much wrong. The correct spelling is most certainly Defence. If you are going to steal another nations language and only have it in use for some 250 years or so then please have the respect to leave said language unadulterated. There are many people on TV who blindly follow the spell checker program with no thought at all for the correct English Language. I guess you would also say color instead of colour. So please use Defense if you must, but don't try and tell the rest of the world who use the Queens English that the US spelling is correct.

The guy took 15 mins to put that post together. Don't you have a little bit more feedback for him than raised eyebrows?

Perhaps the convicted fugitive criminal Dubai based real PM sees a bit of skirt flashed constantly at the Army as a way of keeping the Generals side tracked. Certainly is working with the general public where as the world's best dummie PM the Thai's love her.

RESHUFFLE

Yingluck silent on becoming new defence minister

The Nation

30183974-01_big.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra declined to deny or confirm speculation that she would also take the position of defence minister in the next Cabinet reshuffle.

Brushing aside reporters' questions, she said her immediate focus was on the meeting of the national water resources and disaster policy committee rather than the Cabinet reshuffle.

She smiled but said nothing in response to questions on whether she would hold the Defence portfolio concurrently.

Defence Minister ACM Sukampol Suwannathat said on Monday that he would have no problem with being removed from the Cabinet. Speaking to Spring News satellite TV channel, Sukampol said it was up to the prime minister to make the decision.

Sukampol was commenting on speculation that he would be removed for failing to respond to the government's desire for tighter control over the armed forces.

"I would have no problem about it whatever the speculation says. Any Cabinet reshuffle depends on the prime minister. There will be no turmoil because of the reshuffle," Sukampol said.

He denied, however, that he had failed to respond to government directives.

He said he had carried out his responsibilities to the best of his abilities after receiving orders and policies from the prime minister.

Sukampol said he sometimes reported to the PM's secretary-general.

"I have always carried out all the orders given to me," Sukampol said, adding that he would like to know who raised the allegations against him.

Sukampol also said he was confident that rumours of an imminent military coup were baseless.

She smiled back to reporters without saying anything

The Prime Minister doing what she does best.

She smiled but said nothing in response to questions

Evasiveness of that consistency has not been witnessed in Thailand since her brother-in-law was PM, who, curiously, was evasive on the same exact question.

Cabinet line-up almost ready, says PM

Somchai also denied that ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who is his brother-in-law, had had anything to do with the Cabinet line-up in the making.

The PPP meeting yesterday agreed to give Somchai "full power" in preparing the Cabinet nominations, party spokesman Kudep Saikrajang said.

The PM was evasive when asked if he would retain Defence, like his predecessor Samak Sundaravej

Bad idea, she doesn't have the time for it

Role models Samak and Somchai didn't either, but that didn't stop them from taking the dual positions of PM and DM.

Prime Minister and Defence Minister Samak Sundaravej

Prime Minister and Defence Minister Somchai Wongsawat

p.s. the epilogue of the previous post's evasiveness was that Somchai did take the dual positions.
