Canadian teen girls accused of forcing young girls into prostitution < br />

OTTAWA, CANADA (BNO NEWS) -- Police in the Canadian capital of Ottawa have arrested two teenage girls for allegedly running a human trafficking ring and forcing their young victims into prostitution, officials said on Tuesday. A third teenager is still being sought.

Staff Sergeant John McGetrick said the two 15-year-old girls were arrested on Friday and Saturday and have each been charged with counts of human trafficking, robbery, procuring, forcible confinement, sexual assault, assault, uttering threats and abduction. Their victims were as young as 13.

"Three separate incidents were identified in which three female victims ranging from 13 to 17 years of age were taken to a residence in the 2400 block of Walkley Road (in Ottawa) and subsequently driven to other locations for the purposes of prostitution," McGetrick said. He said a third suspect, a 17-year-old girl, is still being sought.

Officials believe the teens were committing these crimes on their own, and not on behalf of an adult. McGetrick said it could be the first case in Canada that involves teen girls forcing other teens into prostitution, and he added that the first contact between the suspects and the victims may have been through social media.

The names of the suspects were not released.

Also, maybe it is time for governments to start considering whether to lower the 'age of criminal liability' (or whatever it is legally called) from 18.
