3-In-1 Printer Recommendations?

Featured Replies

My job requires me to do a lot of printing and I'm sick of waiting for the printer at work as there are loads of us and only one printer so I'm thinking of buying my own printer for my own home. Besides I think it would just generally be handy to have one.

I'm looking for a colour printer which can also photocopy and scan. So basically one of those handy 3-in-1 printers.

Ideally the graphic designer in me would love a printer which printed good quality colour photos also, but I know I might be asking for a little too much with a 3-in-1

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations? I'm looking for brand and model number if possible. Also if there is any that I should avoid, please feel free to let me know!

Cheers my dears! wai.gif

Just recently I bought a new printer ... a monochrome Laser.

Previously I had a HP 4in1 that, if you asked it nicely would scratch your back.

But the downfall was I'm an infrequent user, often spending months overseas.

Every time I started it, there was the maintenance to run as concerned to that print heads would dry.

Soooooo much ink was wasted this way.

In the end the darn thing just stopped printing and the cause I believe, though not able to prove was that there is a container that accepts all the ink from the cleaning and one day it just got full.

So ... just wanted to open the debate to Inkjet vs Laser Printer.

Canon MP287 with external ink tanks - from Phantip centre in Bangkok, or similar IT centres in other regional big centres. It was widely recommended in ThaiVisa and, having bought one in April for 2,800 THB, I support that recommendation. Not as fast as a Laser printer (2-3 ppm I would guess) but cheaper to buy I think and external tanks make it super cheap to run.

Remember to ask for English software. I have just about worked out all the Thai and have been too lazy to find out how to get it to show English - perhaps I need to go back to the retailer or reinstall it differently (anyone know?)

As you know the majority of printers etc its peanuts to buy and a fortune for ink, however as said above get the Cannon, side tanks, ink is 80 baht a bottle, just replace what you use the most, cheap as chips and runs great. no complaints at all here and does a good job for 2600 baht I paid. all in. Software etc was already in English.

If the majority of your work is business docs then i would go for laser or LED. And if your budget can extend to duplex (double sided printing) then i would go for that too. I have been looking for a new laser multi-function and Brother has a duplex laser black toner which looks good and their toners are reasonable price. I have a samsung at the moment which is great but is a flat bed and as i scan a lot a auto feed would be nice so that i can load all the docs in the shoot and have them self load and scan. Samsung toners are also on the pricey side compared to Brother. It seems that as a rough guide that the more you spend on the printer ,the less you spend on inks/toners up to a certain point. Colour lasers are good too but you are up for 4 toners instead of 1 with a mono printer.

If you are doing mainly photos with minimal document printing then ink jet would be the way to go.

Hope that is some help

Okies, looks like the Canon MP287 is a winner! Thank you very much my dears! clap2.gif

I have one of these too (for the wife and kids schoolwork)

Black works fine as it is used all the time, but the colour heads block due to dis-use, and have to be cleaned at the shop about every 6 months. I think it's a 'feature' of the external tanks.

just a quick note... if you have any interest in wi-fi printing, take a look at the mp497 ... basically same printer, but can connect and print via wi-fi as well...
