TAT and Visa hold Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2012

BANGKOK, 16 June, 2012 (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in cooperation with Visa International Co. Ltd, and other members of the tourism industry are holding the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2012 in several locations. The event is meant to stimulate local businesses during the Green Season. It is predicted that the number of tourists will increase 10% over the next 3 months.

Mr. Suraphon Svetasreni, the TAT governor, revealed that the event has resulted from cooperation among the TAT, Visa, and over 15,000 members of the tourism industry, including department stores, shops, duty-free shops, travel agencies, hotels, golf courses, and spas. All of these industry members are jointly reducing their prices for products and services. Reductions may go up to as high as 80%. These price slashes are to encourage both Thai and foreign tourists to travel and make purchases during the Green Season.

Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2012 will be held at 7 locations, in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Hat Yai, Hua Hin, and Samui Island. The event will run from June 15 to August 15.

Bangkok has dredged 80% of canals in 18 districts

BANGKOK, 16 June 2012 (NNT) - M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, the Bangkok governor, revealed that the city has dredged over 80% of canals and ditches in 18 districts that have been identified as flood-prone areas. He commended the government for giving importance to water source management in upstream areas as the move will reduce Bangkok’s pressure in dealing with water.

As for the building of flood walls, the governor reported that the construction is progressing slowly because residents are refusing to allow access to the designated areas. The Bangkok Metropolitan Admnistration is trying to negotiate with them regarding the issue, and is not sure whether the dykes will be completed by the end of July, as planned.

The governor on this occasion conveyed his request to citizens in those areas to relinquish some parts of their land for the good of the public at large.
