Hello, my wife is Thai, we will have our first child later this year. I have had a look at the visa info on the site and am a little confused. Am I entitled to a non-o because of the child? I am aware that being married entitles me to that visa but I do not have sufficient funds (400k) or whatever it is to qualify for that. If someone could explain what my main visa options are, I would be grateful. I do not intend to work so cannot obtain the non-b.

Thanks.

As said you seem to be talking about extension of stay rather than visa and that financial requirement is the same. For a visa no financial requirement for single entry but multi entry for wife may require at some locations but most will not even issue for child.

My experience is that a multiple entry non-o will cost you more ($175) , but that makes it possible to do quarterly border runs. No extension of visa is required if you do it like this and therefore no financial requirements to fulfill as indicated in the quoted post.

I do not know about visa for child. Sorry. But it does not makes sense that you could not get one if you had all the right documents.

The policy is single entry only at Consulates in the area of Thailand for child basis non immigrant O visa. For wife both single and multi entry is often available. At Savannakhet no requirement for funds - at KL 100k - believe at Penang 400k is being asked.

Okay, so to clarify, I will be arriving on a typical 30 tourist visa. But I can get an O visa on the strength of marriage licence but I will need to leave every 90 days? I will be staying for a bout a year. I can show proof of funds which would surpass 400k but I can't show its been in my account for 6 months, or whatever the ruling is.

From what country will you be arriving?

On proof of marrige, you can get a non-O visa or even a multiple non-O visa from a Thai consulate.

This will give you a stay of 90 days, or multiple stays of 90 days. Once in Thailand you can visit immirgation and get a 1 year extension of stay, if you can show 400,000 in a bank account in thailand for at least 2 months OR an income of 40,000 baht a month.

A rough guide to applying for a 12 Month Extension based on having a Thai Wife.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Letter from your Thai Bank showing balance and up to date bank book.

OR.

Letter from your Embassy showing income. Now may also need proof of income as back up.

Marriage Certificate

Marriage Registry entry.

Wife's Tabbien Baan and ID Card.

Your Passport.

Copies of everything.

Photos of you and your Wife in and around the house.

A map showing the way to your house.

Passport size photos and 1,900 Baht fee.

Take your Wife to be interviewed.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp.

Go back in a month and get the remainder.

Ok, this is clear, however, I don't have the documents with me, so have to show proof in thailand. If I can't show adequate financial proof the nI can still get an o visa but have to leave every 90 days yes?

Not sure what "nl" is but yes if married to a Thai you should be able to obtain visa entry for up to 90 days by application to a Consulate outside Thailand and there is also a 60 day extension of stay from any entry available from Immigration without financial requirements. For the one year extension of stay money must be in account 2 months prior to application.
