Small, Black Jumping Spider

Featured Replies

Apologies if this has already been addressed and I've searched the forums for this but no luck.

Does anybody know if the small, black jumping spiders that are so prevalent here have any kind of bite to worry about? The are about 10 mm across and have a very quick hop. In fact I saw one this morning and by the time I grabbed my camera, it has hopped away.

Anyway, I assume everybody has seen these because they are so common but just curious about whether they are anything to worry about.

Thanks

I have not heard of any spiders biting people in Thailand. Those small jumping spiders seem to be harmless. I have seen tarantulas in Northern Thailand. Many of them are hunted by locals and eaten. So spiders in Thailand have more to worry about us than us about them.

seen some and they jumped on me.....they didn't bite me. But maybe I am smelly bad for Ms Spiderman?

there are barking spiders everywhere.

with 12 legs?

Dr. Cherenkov are you sure that staff you are stocking in my backyard isn't dangerous?

Nothing to worry about, they are harmless

Not if one suffers an allergic reaction to the bite! I was bitten by one of these <expletive deleted> on the back of my leg and underwent five days of painful treatment to combat the rapid infection and stop gangrene setting in. If one is bitten and suffers an increasing reaction, don't ignore it - seek treatment immediately. I came dangerously close to requiring amputation because I almost left it too long before seeking medical help. If it hadn't been for my GF dragging me to hospital in the early hours of the following morning I'd be typing this from a wheelchair. Scared the heck out of me.

Please don't post such uninformed opinion, however well-intentioned, on serious matters you obviously know little about. Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean everyone else is immune.wink.png

And all from one little nip by a tiny spider....

Edited to save the mods the bother.
