Mountain Lion 10.8 GM fixes the scroll Lag in rMBP - Thank god.

It's a burden to be right all the time, I am telling you... :P

:cheesy: I just found this... good to know I am not alone with my obsession of checking the order page every few minutes. In fact it looks like people out there are even worse, they've created a whole website dedicated to... checking the order status....

They just put a hold for the amount on my card - however, still in "processing". Argh. How long between putting a hold on the card+ the actual shipping? Well.. anyway should come this week or next.

After reading your post, I went straight to check my credit card. There is a payment pending for July 13! Finally, it looks like this will be arriving pretty soon.

I too have been checking things more than I should, but it's hard to control. There's a 300 page thread on the Macrumors forum:

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1383549&page=305

It looks like we're only a few days behind the orders to the US, which is pretty good all things considering.

Also, you might want to try the Apple Store app by Apple. It has a place to check order status.

Yah mine switched to shipping status 2-3 days after the hold on the card - then I also got a confirm email and an invoice, and a tracking number.

from that I gather my new computer has been held up in customs in Shanghai airport for 1 whole day, but is now good to go and will be on a plane to BKK tomorrow. Then there's probably another customs delay, then i'll be here - should be tuesday.

and yes I found that ridiculous 300 page thread on people waiting LOL - I contributed as well, what else is there to do if you're an "active" waiter... ;)

rMBP After about a week use palm rest area on the right is a little bit creaky under certain weight positions on both rMBP's.

May open it later today have a look and tighten the bottom cover screws a little. May be the glue on the battery not sticking well.

Good luck. Mine "shipped" on July 12th, but it's still not here - DHL picked it up on the 13th, then it was stuck in customs, then it apparently went on a barge to Hong Kong before getting on a plane to BKK....

DHL "express" at your service...

DHL Hub is Hongkong for asia. Tracking is not usually updated at the weekend if the item is at the hub.

Actually Apple don't use the "Express" DHL shipping they use DHL Freight which is way slower for customs clearance and transit times.

Wish they gave an option for Express shipping gladly pay more.

Express parcel can leave PVG at 10pm arrive HKG hub 12:30am Departs HKG Hub 03:30am arrive BKK 6am then clearance by 9am delivered by 3pm......

But its 4x the price of DHL Freight :)

That explains the HK layover. You're right, I remember reading something about DHL express somewhere, but re-checked the order and there it says "standard shipping". Grrrrr.... but OK one more day.... I should have complained about the delays. In the MacBook Pro order status thread over at MacRumors many people were upgraded to express after complaining. But I thought I already was on express shipping, and then it was too late. ;)

Indeed will be here soon. The other guy from Thailand over at the macrumors page already has his in his hands, he's in Bangkok & was delivered today.

I woke up this morning with a pleasant surprise:

Jul 18, 2012 06:08 Bkk - BKK

Clearance processing complete - Bkk - BKK

So I'm guessing it will arrive tomorrow.

Do you think I can call DHL and go pick it up somewhere today?

possibly - call 02 345 5000

mine is already on the way but no promises as to _when_ it will arrive here which is very annoying. DHL FAIL.

Got it. DHL disappointed one last time - they told me they'd deliver "in the afternoon" when it was already in their office in Chiang Mai. I went to pick it up myself, a 5 minutes motorbike ride from my house... DHL FAIL. But I finally have it :)

Grats! That's pretty funny that it was sitting so close to you.

I already called DHL and confirmed that I'll go pick it up myself from their service center today.

Ok so I was just about to finish setup when I noticed fan noise and the computer got hot.

That was the Dock, found a solution via Google:

http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/53929/dock-on-mbp-retina-is-using-80-cpu

Ended up using the "simpler" fix which is to set desktop backgrounds for all spaces.

As soon as that was working, my screen got messed up. Like, completely. It looked like the gfx card had given up the ghost, but actually turns out it's another known issue. I installed gfxCardStatus, switched to integrated while the screen was still messed up - going back and forth between spaces would fix it for just a second - and as soon as integrated was on, the problems disappeared.

Apparently all these are fixed in OS X Mountain Lion. I suddenly don't mind the wait so much, would not have liked to be a pioneer / beta tester ...

Well, that's a disappointing way to start out your MBPR experience. I'm sorry to hear that. Luckily, it looks like these are just software issues that will be fixed. I'm still a little bit nervous that I will come across something bad myself.

I did have my own concern which was that my screen looked a little yellow when compared side-by-side with my old MBP which had a more blueish hue. Though it wasn't bad enough to notice when not doing such a comparison. Anyway, I went in and adjusted the display settings and the color of the two is now basically indistinguishable. Though regardless, I see this as a minor cost of being on the cutting edge of technological advance: everything else is so amazing.

Here are some other things I've noticed now that I've been able to play with it:

*Of course, the screen is awesome. I had fun loading various retina photos on both my new and old computers to compare. It's just like when you compare HD tv to Standard tv. You don't notice how bad S TV is until you've tasted HD tv.

*The size is great, very thin and light. My old MBP feels like a clumsy brick compared to this. Or, this feels like a MB Air compared to that. I carry my laptop around with me a lot and that one less pound will help.

*It does a full restart in 20 seconds! By "full", I mean, it's completely ready to go. This is in contrast to my 2009 MBP which takes several minutes to restart, and then it's still sluggish for a while.

*Standard web pages load way faster. I knew everything else would be way faster, and it is, but I was surprised to even see browsing sped up so much.

*It's great with games. For fun, I downloaded World of Warcraft to see how it's handled. At maxed-out "ultra" settings (1440x900), it's at 60 fps, and even when continually spinning and jumping around a forest area, it still stays at 60 fps with some dips into the 30-40 range. In my years of messing around with WOW on various setups, I've never had it this nice. I purged the WOW addiction from my system a long time ago, but I may give Diablo 3 a shot with this thing wink.png.

*The speakers are incredible. Before, I would use headphones on my MBP when I wanted to hear quality sound, but these speakers eliminate that need.

<<<<<<>>>>>>>

I'm still in the process of transferring everything to this computer. I'm using this as an opportunity to see if I could really restore everything if my laptop were destroyed. So I'm restoring from my cloud backup. I can't wait to be set up on this computer and try out my normal work day without so many beach balls, stutters, and having to watch my system resources.

Have the kinks been worked out yet?

Yep, everything is working fine, I've gfxCardStatus set to integrated at all times, there is absolutely no slowdown (or slow-anything for that matter) on this machine, and it gets better battery life. No glitches.

I am more amazed by the display every day... there's no going back. Standard screens look strangely dull by comparison. I find the retina resolution takes a while to really sink in, it took me two days of working before I realized how great this really is. Amazing. I might need a new camera as the screen makes the shortcomings of the iPhone 4 camera painfully obvious. DSLR images look fantastic, better than print. iPhone pics... not so much... whoops! I never realized that the display just wasn't good enough to show much of a difference...

I just got my MacBook Pro 15" Retina delivered. 512 GB SSD and 16GB RAM.

I ordered at Apple Shop for Thailand, which I believe is in Singapore and 10 days later it was delivered. I used to have the previous MacBook Pro 15" with 500 GB SSD, but during the flooding last year theives broke into my house and stole it. The police? ... useless!

Anyway, the display is fabulous IF the picture is accordingly. Take e.g. the website of ThaiVisa, well, not HD and most characters have a distinct and visible saw teeth edge.

But if the source is HD, the picture is really great.

Is it worth the money? At over 100,000 THB, which is more than double a Windows laptop with slim design and SSD, probably not, but what the heck!

Yesterday I went to Big C Extra Rama 4 in Bangkok. There is a small Apple Authorized Booth on the 2nd floor.

They got the MBP 15" Retina i7 for 98.000 Baht.

Unfortunately i can't remember the rest of the Specs.
