Democrat and Pheu Thai too far apart for any alliance : Thaksin

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has denied engaging in talks to invite the Democrats to join the Pheu Thai-led coalition, his legal adviser Noppadon Pattama said on Tuesday.

"Thaksin has confirmed through me that he did not talk with Democrat MP Suthep Thuagsuban," he said.

Noppadon said Thaksin was equally clear he had not dispatched any emissaries as alleged by Suthep.

He said the Democrat and Pheu Thai parties were incompatible and it would not be possible for them to team up as part of an alliance due their political differences.

Earlier Suthep said Thaksin had approached him via a well-respected man and two women, both high society figures.

The former Democrat secretary general said that he had been approached several times since January by Thaksin via two "high society" women and later by a senior figure he respects, inviting the Democrats to join the government if they stopped fighting the controversial constitutional amendment and reconciliation bills.

He turned down the offer and thanked the figures, whom he said had good intentions towards the country and sincerely believed that a union between the country's two largest political parties would end the political conflict.

Suthep refused to name the people involved, saying he did not want them to be misunderstood.

Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva also said he had learned about Thaksin's offer from Suthep and senior Democrats. He said he later informed key figures about the matter to clear any suspicion of foul play among them.

Which of the two, Thaksin or Noppadon, would you believe on any topic, much less polotics? Now that we have determined that issue, maybe someone could establish a big 'ignore' button for both of them.

Let's get technical.

"Thaksin has confirmed through me that he did not talk with Democrat MP Suthep Thuagsuban," he said.

Suthep never said that Thaksin spoke to him. He said a group of people representing Thaksin came to him. But of course Thaksin always can say that those people cannot represent him. Same as with the reds that commit violent acts. They are not real reds....

On top of that, Yingluck said: She hadn't heard of any talks and can't image there were talks. (standard Yingluck answer btw)

So, both Yingluck and Thaksin didn't deny that Suthep was approached.

Let's continue to be "technical":

Noppadon also said "Thaksin was equally clear he had not dispatched any emissaries as alleged by Suthep".

You seem to intentionally forget to mention half of what was said... which is many people's "technique" when speaking about Thaksin and the reds on this forum.

But you are going to argue that "technically" Thaksin is wrong anyway... So, what's the point coffee1.gif

Looks like will just have to depend on Thaksin's reputation for honesty and always acting in good faith to decide who's right.

Thaksin has confirmed that he did not talk to Suthep.

Suthep now loose face big time.

I suppose he just make up something to at attention, now that he has none.

And not one second you would imagine that Thaksin is not telling the truth?

It continues to amaze me that the media gives this man a voice. Who is he, that he can comment on Thai politics as a fugitive from a jail term?

As another poster has said, Thaksin often tests the water. When he sees the strategy failed, he denies he did anything. This is textbook Thaksin.

Textbook Thaksin indeed. We've seen this so many times over the years. There is no doubt in my mind that a man with the intial T organised an approach to another with the initial S. Those in denial are just wishful thinkers.

Noppadon also said that Thaksin was invited by the US Helsinki Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe. It must have been his diplomatic passport from Montenegro that made Thaksin a valuable expert on European security issues.

So you don't believe that Thaksin was invited by the US Helsinki Commission? The Deputy spokesman for foreign affairs Thani Thongpakdi and Foreign Minister's Secretary Chaowanont Inthrakpmasut obviously thought differently............

The Helsinki commission didn't announce anything on their web site. And they had a lot of similar events included. And as Khun T didn't get anywhere near the USA during that time I think it fair to consider it as a hoax. Besides - what could a Shinawatra contribute to the complicated matter of security and cooperation in Europe? Even if he could release a single coherent sentence in English.

Inviting Thaksin would have been as useful as making his lil' sister the PM of Thailand. Ah... wait...

well well well.....who to believe?

Should Suthep reveal the contact names, that would clarify it!

you can't do that in Thailand, libel laws are crazy here.

(which of course doesn't proof that Suthep is telling the true)

I think if Thaksin confirms something or not, does not mean anything.

He lied so many times that it is complete irrelevant what he confirms.

Suthep on the other side isn't the person I would trust.....But the story is just too crazy to be made, specially the things Suthep told on the beginning where he basically confirmed that he was stupid in the past.

No, it's true;

'Thaksin did not talk to Suthep'

A perfectly truthful statement.

But that doesn't mean Thaksin did not communicate with Suthep

via other messengers using their own words for stating Thaksin's intent.

Sure Sutheo and that Kuhn T. never talked...

But the messages both ways were clearly delivered.

He didn't go to it but was invited but if you want to believe it was a hoax it's up to you. I would have thought that the original person who doubted the existence of an invite would have come back with some kind of response but you seem to doubt it as well. Fair enough.

The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe wrote to Thaksin on Nov23 to invite him to address a forum titled “Thailand: Democracy, Governance and Human Rights” in Washington on Dec 16. The commission asked him in the invitation to give his perspective on the human rights situation in Thailand including freedom of the press and freedom of expression, and the Thai government’s efforts to calm the insurgency in the South.

The website http://www.csce.gov/ lists no hearing for that date and a search for Thailand on the site shows nothing.

The Helsinki commission never scheduled a forum called "Thailand: Democracy, Governance and Human Rights", as it is focused on European issues.

A search on the CSCE's web site http://www.csce.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=Home.Home for Thaksin Shinawatra results in

The document you requested can not be found or is undergoing routine maintenance.

The closest they get to Thailand is

HELSINKI COMMISSION TO HOLD BRIEFING ON POLITICAL PRISONERS IN CENTRAL ASIA

It was a cheap hoax to create the image of an "esteemed elder statesman" whose opinion is appreciated outside Thailand.

Seems some fell for it.

Thaksin and Pheu Thai dismiss unity govt claim

The Nation

30184518-01_big.jpg

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, far left, chairs the mobile Cabinet meeting in Chon Buri yesterday.

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra dismissed and laughed at the claim by senior Democrat figures that he approached the party to join the government, his legal adviser Noppadon Pattama said yesterday.

Speaking at the headquarters of the ruling Pheu Thai Party, the lawyer said he talked to Thaksin about the claim by former Democrat secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban. "He laughed and said it was untrue and impossible," Noppadon said.

He questioned Suthep's credibility, saying he had spread some rumour that was later found to be untrue. He also called on Suthep to name the two women and one man who he claimed had approached him on behalf of the fugitive ex-PM.

Thaksin is believed to be pulling the strings behind the ruling party and government headed by his sister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Other Pheu Thai politicians also came out yesterday to dismiss the claim by Suthep and Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva that their party was offered a role in the Pheu Thai-led government in exchange for the opposition party stopping its campaign against the controversial charter-change and reconciliation bills.

Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit challenged Suthep and Abhisit to swear a vow of truth at the sacred Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) in order to prove their claim.

"I insist that the allegation is untrue. It's impossible in this life. The two parties have totally difference ideologies," the spokesman said.

But Democrat spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said later the unusual eagerness of "Thaksin's lackeys" in rejecting Suthep's claim showed the matter had the potential to rock Pheu Thai and the red shirt movement.

"Some of those who made the denial, in fact, came to negotiate with the party [Democrat] and make offers in exchange for what Thaksin wants," Chavanond said.

"I believe that the red-shirt leaders were aware of this [the offer] but they did not think that Suthep would expose it," the spokesman said.

Chavanond said Thaksin had tried every means he could to achieve his goal of not having to serve his jail term and get his seized assets returned. Thaksin fled overseas in late 2008 prior to the Supreme Court imposing a two-year term for a land deal found to violate corruption laws.

Meanwhile, Thanpuying Viriya Chavakul, a board member of the Sai Jai Thai Foundation, who is close to Thaksin, denied yesterday that she was one of "two women from high society" Suthep said approached him.

Viriya said although she had visited Thaksin several times in Dubai, where the ex-leader has lived in self-exile to avoid going to prison at home, she had never approached the Democrat Party.

She said it was possible Suthep made up the claim in a bid to destroy Thaksin. She also called on Suthep to name the people involved.

However, Viriya added that it was also likely some people had tried to negotiate with the Democrats without Thaksin's consent. "Thaksin is honest and there could be some people who are insincere and want to dupe him for their advantage," she said.

Ok try listening to both sides, direct from the source without going the middleman like the Nation or asiacorrespondent etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUWweNeHP_M&feature=related

Here they talk about the ammart using the Democrats and how they are such a failure because they ordered the killing of citizens. Also mentioned in the video is how impossible and ludicrous it is for Thaksin/PTP to even bother asking the Democrats to join as the Dems are just nobodies. They believe that Democrats are faking to care for the Red-Shirts after they murdered citizens in cold blood.

Here you have the Democrats talking about how the Red Shirts are misled into believing that it's about the ammart and the poor. They talk about how and why Newin Chidchop got into the Democrat Party, and how the military coup did not put the Democrats into power. General Surayud was the Interim Government Prime Minister who was succeed by PPP's Samak Sundaravej but later was unqualified to be the PM because it conflicts with the Constitution. Furthermore, if Samak wanted to be PM again (there was nothing prohibiting from doing so), he could've but the PPP (Thaksin) didn't nominate him but instead nominated Somchai which is Thaksin's brother-in-law.

Both videos goes further in depth and more on the topic but I'd be making a very long post. Get your wife or relatives to translate the videos if they can. I'll summarize more if people want me to.

I think that Abhisit and Suthep should both do that on the single proviso that Thaksin and Prompong are right there beside them and that it be don within one month.

After all Thaksin has a Thai passport and he has ALWAYS been able to return to Thailand ay ANY time.
