When a Thai woman marries a Farang in Thailand,can she retain her name or does she have to change to her husbands name?

My wife has kept her maiden name, saves a lot of hassles with passports, id cards, drivers licence, house card.....need I go on.

The law was changed a few years ago to allow the wife to choose to use either.

And Thais can change their official name to anything they like legally, completely independently of marital status.

Not quite as easy as in NES countries, but certainly not forbidden.

If only they stopped changing their chue len at the drop of a hat. . .
