Holiday Visa: Australia

Just out of curiosity, how many times can a Thai citizen apply for a holiday visa to Australia if there is a family member there. Also, is there a waiting period before you can apply for a new one when the previous one expires?

hello recently we had a client return from a 3 month visit & we managed to get her a 6 month visa around 6 weeks after she returned. But the visa officer called me and advised that once she returns he does not expect another visit visa application from her for 9 months.

There is no set period as such to reapply. As a general rule though, DIAC would generally prefer a 2 to 3 months wait before reapplying.

As far as how may visa's you can acquire. DIAC are usually ok with one 3 month visa per year.

More than that and they start to worry that the person is actually trying to live in Australia or use the

time to build up their de facto time together for a spouse visa.

As you've mentioned "relative", there are 2 visa's that apply. The first being a 676 which is a tourist visa.

The second is a 679 which is specifically for relatives. It's a bit easier to get if the applicant is in a "high risk"

category and sometimes a refundable bond will be requested.

And yet the Australian Government expects that you are living with your partner in a spouse or de facto relationship at the time of applying for a partner visa.

Here's the thing that I don't get. This criteria would suit those who are living in Thailand with their partners, but if they are living happily together in Thailand, are they the most likely people wanting to live in Australia?

Surely there would be more guys who aren't in a position to live in Thailand (e.g. career in Australia, etc) that would be wanting to have their Thai partners come live with them in Australia? In that case, makes it pretty hard to meet the criteria if the Australian government are so restrictive in issuing tourist visas to Thai nationals.

Funny how I could travel to Thailand 6 times a year without anyone questioning whether I'm a genuine tourist, but if a Thai national visited Australia more than once then suddenly they aren't considered genuine tourists!

I do not think this is the case, every application is looked at on it's own merit's

When i applied for my partners 2nd TV for a 6month visit, i actually stated that one of the reasons that we were applying for 6month's visitors visa, was that we were trying to meet the 12month minimum living together requirement to apply for a defacto visa. The visa was granted.

If you are in Thailand there is nothing stopping you using a migration agent in Australia.

One of my brothers used him in a complex case and he was excellent.
