Which Documents Should We Translate From Thai To English For Uk Visa

Hey Guys & Gals,

the wife and i are going to apply for a tourist visa to UK for a 6 week trip soon, then return to thailand and apply for the spouse visa, assuming the wife likes the UK enough.....

so we are going to get some documents translated in bangkok. The price we have been quoted is 200B for simple documents, and up to 700B for chanotes

so can i have some advice on what we should translate (i am thinking even if one document is not needed for the tourist visa, but will be needed for the spouse visa, then we may as well get them all translated now, saving us a trip to do it later (assuming they will be accepted in a few months time, if translated this month?))

the documents we have now are :-

- blue book for the house we own via company route

- wife's id card

- thai marriage certificate

- Sam Now Tabian Som Rot (sp?) - which is a 2 page document that is used in conjunction with marriage certificate to say marriage is valid

- Nang Sur Rap Rong (sp?) - a 5 page document outlining who owns shares in our company, & regarding assets of the company (i think)

- Chanote for the house our company owns

- 2 chanotes for 2 pieces of land the wife owns

- birth certificate for the wife

- 2 birth certificates for the wife's daughters

- Name change certificate from when my wife changed her christian name (i guess this will be needed in conjunction with birth certificate)

- Name change certificate from when my wife changed family name to my surname after marriage

Which of these do you think we should get tranlsated?

Is there any Thai documents we have forgotten?

We have a Family Visa for my wife to visit the UK with me next month, we submitted:-

2 x chanote

Tabian Baan

Birth certificate

Divorce certificate

Death certificate for ex-husband

Death certificate for son

Our marriage certificate

Her change name certificate

All in Thai, nothing translated.

On the two occasions we have applied for visit visas we have had nothing translated and on both occasions the visas were issued.

I am a little confused.......

does it not say on the UKBA or the VFS website, that all documents need to be translated into english? that is what i read i am sure.....

i would be very happy if we dont need to travel to bangkok and pay XXXX Baht for translations.......

Correct... It does say that documents not in English should be translated but most people don't bother and have no problem. For settlement it may be necessary to translate marriage documents.

May I ask why you are travelling to Bangkok to get translations done?

Unless you are really out in the sticks, I would have thought most reasonable towns have translators. If you are referring to MoFA certification, then you are correct, that can be only be done in Chiang Mai or Bangkok

The official advice does indeed say that all documents not in English should be accompanied by a certified translation. But anecdotal evidence suggests that this is not necessary.

The UKBA website says that translations should be submitted, but the Embassy still accept documents in Thai. We were given a verbal assurance by the Embassy that, if and when they stop accepting documents in Thai, then they will inform us. Paul at Thai Visa Express received the same assurance from the Embassy on this.

Not required for a UK visa application; certification by the translation agency is sufficient.

great stuff guys...... you have just saved us a trip to bangkok, and a load of hassle, that would have relieved us of 2,000 + baht.....

erm..... was travelling to bangkok as translation there was 200B a sheet.... whereas here in hua hin i got quoted 450B

we go to bangkok quite often, so would have had to tie it in with one of our trips.......

this is great news tho, as we were looking at dropping it with the guy in north bkk, then killing 6 or so hours, then coming back to north bkk to collect..... plus the worry the wife would have endured handing over all her important documents to a stranger......

I suspect he is saying that "All the documents they submit are not translated" ie. they do not translate any documents they submit.

all we will submit is our marriage certificate and sons birth certificate with english translation

Just get your mariage certificate translated and stamped its usefull when your in the uk
