July 9, 201213 yr Hi I have looked thru the information web from Australian Immigration, but cannot find out about our specific case. I also called Australian visa application center in bangkok, but after a 1/2 waiting I got a Thai lady on the phone that hardly speak english. I am a Norwegian citizen living in Thailand with my Thai wife. My wife is offered a position in an Australian mining company close to Perth. She have a master in Environmental science. I recon she will not have any problem with visa/work permit. This offer from the mining company is important for here future career and she like to say yes to this job. The offer is 2 years contract with possibility to renew. So the question: Will I be able to apply for some kind of “marriage” visa to stay with my wife? (Here salary will be more than enough to support both of us.) And if I got some kind of visa, will I be able to apply for job in Australia. Thank you in advanced
July 9, 201213 yr I can't answer your question as i know nothing of Australian visas. But; .............I got a Thai lady on the phone that hardly speak english.................As most applicant's are Thai, not surprising. Why not ask your wife to phone?
July 9, 201213 yr Sounds like your wife is being sponsored for an Australia 457 visa - link with overview is http://www.immi.gov....ed-workers/sbs/ Your wife's employer will be able to assist, so long as she has declared that she is married with you. The 457 visa does permit the spouse to accompany the 457 visa holder so you can obtain employment. if you have any University/trade certificates get them translated into English and certified at the Australian Embassy. EDIT: If the workplace is close to a mine, check that accommodation is provided as a part of the package as rental accommodation will be very limited and expensive. Best of luck... They have company busses going every evening/morning

I am a graduated programmer, but i they dont, I can always spend my time fishing IT Programmer in WA should be in reasonable demand due to high level of investment in ERP for the resources sector with the likes of SAP. I used to work in the IT industry (sales) in Australia & I do know that BHP & Rio Tinto have a huge global investment in SAP and have offices in Perth. Larger IT vendor organisations in WA are CSC, Accenture, IBM, CSG and a few others. If you are not already certified in some SAP modules you may like to use your spare time to gain certification. Well worth the time & effort. Again best of luck for your new life in Australia.

Since I am Norwegian citizen, we could have chosen Norway but it had been difficult for my wife to get a proper job there. So we really look forward to a different life now. If we ever go back to Thailand, I don’t know. Probably only on holidays. We want to keep our house here, but selling car, motorbikes etc. Edited July 9, 201213 yr by expat63
