Overstay & Stolen Passport

Featured Replies

So this may seem a silly question:

My friend was robbed in Nai Harn a few weeks back, just after quitting her job with only 2 weeks left on her visa to stay in Thailand.

Her passport was in her bag when she was robbed. She filed a police report and has since applied for a new passport, which is on its way. At this point, she is at about 18 days overstay.

My question is...will the fee still be 500bht/day overstay, even if she can prove via police report and new date of issue in her new passport that there was nothing she could have done? Or will there just be a fine?

Any insight would be much appreciated!!!

She will be fined for overstay at 500 baht a day. The reason doesn't matter to immigration. Simply pay the fine and leave.

Why could her Embassy not issue an emergency passport? Normally that can be done immediately after police report is available and no overstay would be required for travel home.

She didn't have the money to travel to Bangkok to get to her embassy...she applied for a new passport online.

i should also mention that she lives/works here....this couldn't have happened at a worse time, she had just literally quit her job 2 days before and was starting her new job in just a few days.
