Small Trip To Koh Samet

Featured Replies

Hello,

Me and some friends are on our way to spend a few days in koh samet,

I would like to know if someone can tell me about the best beach to go to and some nice, reasonably priced, resort ?

Thanks

Are you looking for the party scene or a quiet beach?

Anything on the East coast. A bit more nightlife up north. Down South where I went Malibu run tour resort, it was nice and quiet. NO road. Nightly barbecue with a lot of choices put out on the beach by the 7 or so hotels on that stretch of land.

Yes, I think the big "party" beach is the first one you come to, White Sands beach. Lots of places to stay there. There is a road down the island, kinda. I haven't been for several years, but last time it was all dirt and a bit dodgy in areas, especially after a rain.

Here's some good info:

Candlelight Beach (Ao Thian), a 10 minute walk over the hill past the Malibu resort has nice, quiet cove beaches and reasonably priced bungalows; not too much night life.

There is a nice trail to "Sunset Point" on the opposite side of the island, quite spectacular.

Thanks a lot!!

I was more up to a quiet beach, but my friends are on holidays so we'll go to white sand beach I think :)

I'll give you my thoughts about it on monday after the tough wake up to work ;)

My friend and our girls took a nice half day snorkeling trip around the island. Medium sized boat. 8 of us all together, Boat stopped at 2 maybe 3 spots if I recall. Fins and snorkel swimming . Water was nice, but I was a bit dissapointed by the blandness of the marine life and coral. Definitely looked like low level mankind intrusions had spoiled the natural scene a bit. Then stopped for lunch at some outdoor place right on the water. Ate on the dock. I thought it was a nice slow paced very scenic excursion. My friend did rent a small bike and tried to ride up the dirt road that is just inland from the beach. Not much success.

I want to add that this was on my second trip to Thailand and was in December of 2004 and was on the day of the Tsunami. My friends and I had at the last minute changed our 3 night trip plans from Phuket to Ko Samet instead. Good fortune for us.

Have a look at Sai Kaew Beach IMO the busiest of Koh Samet and the most popular, few restaurants on the beach to choose from, I Normally use Ploy Talay, always been quite busy when I've been and service not too bad, live music during dinner with a fireshow on the beach, later the night club is open with a live band and dj.

Some pretty decent bungalows in the area at reasonable prices.

You can get the slow boat from Ban Phe or take the speed boat, benifit of taking the speed boat is that you can escape from paying the fee for entering the National park, not 100% but after many trips I have never paid the fee when takijng the speed boat.

I use white shark from Ban phe pier opposite 7/11 and Christies bar.
