connda Posted July 14, 2012 Share Posted July 14, 2012 My 2 1/2 month old puppy just got bit by what I think is a small Tarantula. Two poke marks to the nose. Not sure of the toxity of spiders here in Thailand. I got the culprit in a jar, and I'm including a picture in this post. From previous reading, it's my impression the most spiders in Thailand are not dangerously toxic, but now I need to know for sure. Can anyone offer advise as soon as possible? Thanks! There would be hundreds walking around in the springtime. I have never seen them here before, accept in cages at the market. When I was in Boy Scouts we used to catch them and have them walk across pieces of cardboard until they seemed calmed then replace the cardboard with out hands. They make good display animals. Just repeating what others have said, their bite has been equated to a bee sting. Not deadly unless allergic to the venom. One of those links above mentioned that the Thai version is more easily startled and bites quickly. I would have freaked out if I saw that in the flesh! :ninja: Yeah, the day before I had to "escort" a black scorpion out of the back yard. The dogs walked right past it (thankfully). But these critters are just a fact of like where I live. I'm sure someone else will get stung on the nose before the year is out, but at least they're not deadly. Just a nuisance. And as far as the spider goes, kept it in a jar until I was sure the puppy was alright. Released it across the street in a vacant lot. Can't blame the spider -- it was just protecting itself.
