bobthedog
Hi Reading on the internet that Bangkok is eventually sinking and might be underwater in 15-20 years, should one be concerned about investing in property in this city?
Delight
Venice is built on wooden piles-as a consequence it can and probably will sink. To my knowledge Bangkok is built on Terra Firma. I think more likely that the river is rising. This is consequence of several factors. Up stream industrialization has no doubt made a negative contribution . They just have to find ways to improve drainage into the bay. Easier said then done.
ballbreaker
I would not buy property in Bangkok for that very reason.

Take a drive past Don Muang under the elevated section and as you pass each of the support columns you will see that the columns are piled and rafted. they are staying pretty much where they are, however you will notice that surrounding the pillars the whole road area has dropped about 12 to 15 inches and where the road surface caps the rafts they have had to scrape off that 12 to 15 inches to level the surface again. That's what I would call sinking. Sea levels are rising but not as fast as BKK is going in the other direction.
Payboy
No doubt, a 1,000 hot air balloons will stop the subsidence.
overherebc
No doubt, a 1,000 hot air balloons will stop the subsidence. I heard there was a large building in BKK that is full of hot air everyday but no-one does anything meaningful with it.
