Thai Postal Service - Safe To Order Expensive Items?

Featured Replies

I'm planning on buying the new iPad. Most stores that I have visited have prices higher than the online Apple Store. If I order online, will it arrive?

Is it possible that an expensive item like that could get "lost" in the mail?

I ordered my current Macbook last year back in the states from the Apple Store. No issues arriving on time of course.

Has anyone had any problems/good experiences with the Postal Service here, (i.e. expensive items not showing up?).

Would you chance it? or just buy it from the store at a higher price?

I have bought things of varying value from Thailand and all over the world for more than ten years; never lost a package. Just make sure it is sent with a tracking number. If it is coming via courier, as from the Apple store, it is extra secure. I have bought a 30,000 baht monitor and a graphics card from the Apple store and they turned up in about 3 days.

I you buy from Apple / Mac it will automatically have a tracking number and it will arrive... Thai Post is extremely efficient.... thumbsup.gif

I have received documents in the mail and it was always extremely efficient.

It amazes me how they can operate efficiently given how bad the city planning can be in Thailand. Many houses I see are in mazes of soi's, some of which don't even have street names. Many of the houses don't even have visible numbers?

Bought my I pad from the online apple store, delivered direct by DHL from the factory in China, complete with free name engraved arrived in three days to my home in Pattaya. However I have to say it was the same price as offered locally (telewiz)

what about the customs duty?

You might want to check the apple forum. Some people were discussing getting the new MacBook pro shipped here, might have some good advice for you.

It all taken care of by Mac, included in the price, you should pay nothing extra...

Just a note: John C above mentions it may come via DHL, that could be the case depending on where you live....( it does start off with DHL, just track to see if it gets switched to the post office....)

The key of course is having your house number posted! They will have your phone number too, that gets entered when you order... It's really reliable, I brought several Mac items in last year.... It will come from HK or Singapore...

All arrived fast! thumbsup.gif

It comes straight from Shenzen by DHL.

Very reliable and NO customs to be paid.

Is there a apple store here in Thailand? That was pretty fast for a out of country delivery.

I was wondering about that by the time you add shipping and customs if there was a price difference.

I suspect the shipping might be free but it is all ready in the price.

DHL means customs duty, you have just been over lucky...

No, all is paid by Apple. You pay only the price in the web store.

Much better to order from Apple than using a Thai shop where you may be cheated.
