Passport And Deposit Payment For Renting Apartment

Featured Replies

Dear all,

Does the landlord/ apartment management ask identity card / passport when you rent a apartment for the first time ?

Is it right to pay apartment deposit cash in hand ?

Or can I ask the apartment management their bank account as a proof in the future if there is a dispute or they does not want to return the deposit ?

Thanks

Whenever money is paid a receipt would have to be issued. Ask for one at all times. If they ask for passports then a copy would be given. They will also ask for a copy of your visa and your departure card.

That would be the norm no question.

There is (not enforced) a requirement for all foreign nationals to be registered at any address they stay at. Taking a copy of the passport (or just the vital details) is a good way of ensuring that there is enough information to sate any policeman's fullest level of inquiry (with a B500 note, of course).

The will ask for passport if your signing a lease. They are required to report foreigners with leases, not sure about month to month. Ok for cash deposit if you get a receipt. Would suggest not giving out bank account details or credit card numbers for obvious reasons. If you really want to be careful use a real estate agent who will handle contract/lease and deposits.
