Olympic Opening Time

Featured Replies

I believe it is,although BBC coverage starts at 7pm the ceremony does not start until 9pm and finishes at 12.30am.

The worldwide broadcast of the Ceremony will commence at 21:00 on 27 July 2012, with the pre-show starting at 20:12.

UK times

My friend went to the pre-show the other night and felt that Danny Boyle has done us proud. With Underworld responsible for the music as well I feel this could be a very "British" reply to the last games' opening ceremony (which was staggering).

I remember before the Sydney Olympics Australians were getting themselves into a Tizz about the opening and closing ceremonies - we had a mighty fear they'd be cringeworthy. They ended up doing our nation proud, as I am sure tonights event will be.

Just wondering how you reflect the whole train system breaking down cause you got a leaf on the tracks? tongue.png

Seriously though, it will be wonderful and I am sure you'll be very chuffed to call yourself British over the next 2 weeks.

Leaves on the track. Ah (chest puffed out) how British. It will only be a 10/10 with a * if Danny Boyle has a reference to that in it. Followed closely by stoicism, patience and queueing. The end will be a GIANT CUP OF TEA!!!! Brilliant....oh, and Wombles!

plus the Goodies. Can't go without the Goodies.

So yeah, to answer the question at hand, I have read and heard at 4 am to 7 am most of the Thai channels will be showing the Olympic Opening. A short 1 hour before hand full of men in hats and hitting each other with fans.

Don't blame me if this doesnt happen as it's what I've read and heard.

got it thanks!

I thought it was a very different type of opening ceremony and was excellent, the people i've spoke to back in the UK said it went down very well over there.

With over 200 teams, the athletes entrance did go on a long time. I must admit I got a bit bored during that bit; and wasn't the only one!

I like the way the commentator says she "looks on proudly, I'm sure!"

Very nice touch having the flame lit by young, unknown athletes nominated by past British medal winners. Passing the torch, indeed.

Can't find a video of it, unfortunately; it was spectacular.

I watched the opening ceremonies in 3D on a 46-inch TV set and enjoyed it very much. Found some parts a bit boring but who knows, others may have found the same parts particularly interesting. The way the Queen played along, being picked up at Buckingham palace by secret agent 007, was great (a stunt person did the parachute drop, or course). Mr. Bean played his part as a member of the orchestra nicely, too.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
