July 28, 201214 yr Chalerm denies knowledge of son's move The Nation on Sunday BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said yesterday he disagreed with his son Duang, who has switched from the military to become a police officer. Chalerm said if he had known his son's plan he would have stopped him, because a police officer has to move from place to place many times. And if the rival party became the government, his son would certainly be transferred to serve in the restive South. Duang, meanwhile, said he had grown up, therefore his father had nothing to do with the move. However, he insisted he followed the process legally in switching from the Army to the Metropolitan Police Bureau. Asked if he wanted to be a national athlete because he has expertise in shooting, Duang said he almost applied for national athlete selection for the latest SEA Games, but when the news spread, things became complicated so he changed his mind. National Police chief Pol General Priewpan Damapong said on Friday that Duang would be an instructor at a pistol-shooting course for policemen because of his expertise in that. He admitted that the appointment was "hastened" but added that "given his capability and usefulness, his appointment is appropriate". -- The Nation 2012-07-29
July 29, 201214 yr Popular Post "Asked if he wanted to be a national athlete because he has expertise in shooting," He found out the targets were not live policemen.

July 29, 201214 yr This story would be nothing if the reader doesn't do a Google search for the names in question. Makes all the difference! Is it any coincidence the Nation left out links or mentions of the past? Edited July 29, 201214 yr by theajarn
July 29, 201214 yr This story would be nothing if the reader doesn't do a Google search for the names in question. Makes all the difference! Is it any coincidence the Nation left out links or mentions of the past? Anyone who knows anything about Thailand knows the names in question.
July 29, 201214 yr Duang will be able to assist his father, in eradicating drugs and tourism-related mafia, his martial-skills might come in handy ?

July 29, 201214 yr Popular Post "Asked if he wanted to be a national athlete because he has expertise in shooting, Duang said he almost applied for national athlete selection for the latest SEA Games, but when the news spread, things became complicated so he changed his mind." Upon meeting with officials of the SEA Games, Mr Duang learned that in competition shooting, the target is a fixed board and not an off duty police officer or civilian. That might have been the reason he changed his mind.
July 29, 201214 yr Slowly I begin to believe in reincarnation-Monthy python forever, unfortunately not that funny Always look on the bright side of life 8)
July 29, 201214 yr You couldn't make it up, but then it's pretty standard for Thailand. The odious Chalerm family, seem to get away with murder, my mistake Duang did.
July 29, 201214 yr He didn't know what his son was doing but he does know for certain what the rival party would do if it became the government. Just doesn't add up for me. Edited July 29, 201214 yr by kimamey
July 29, 201214 yr This story would be nothing if the reader doesn't do a Google search for the names in question. Makes all the difference! Is it any coincidence the Nation left out links or mentions of the past? It was in the other English language paper that we are not allowed to quote from or link to.
July 29, 201214 yr The headline should have simply read "Chalerm denies having any knowledge" end of quote.
July 29, 201214 yr A government without scruples. A police force without scruples. Chalerm said if he had known his son's plan he would have stopped him, because a police officer has to move from place to place many times. And if the rival party became the government, his son would certainly be transferred to serve in the restive South. I think a guy with his record should not become a cop at all! But if he does, would his family name give him the privilege not to do his duty (even in the south) like so many others do? I would quit the job, serving in the south while the vice PM basically says: Yeah it's OK for you to die down there, but not for my son.
July 29, 201214 yr National Police chief Pol General Priewpan Damapong said on Friday that Duang would be an instructor at a pistol-shooting course for policemen because of his expertise in that. He admitted that the appointment was "hastened" but added that "given his capability and usefulness, his appointment is appropriate". Shooting someone from a few feet away does not make anyone an expert. His capacity & usefulness? Apart from keeping him off the street, any ideas? Hastened & appropriate. By who & why? There is not one word of truth in the statements of Chalerm & the police chief.
July 29, 201214 yr Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said yesterday he disagreed with his son Duang, who has switched from the military to become a police officer. As a daddy I can understand the concern displayed by Dept. PM Pol. Captain Chalerm. Imagine your son coming to you and says "Dad, I will switch from Army to Police". With k. Chalerm knowing the good and the bad of his force, of course he disagrees
July 29, 201214 yr If he is going to work at the police academy mabe he can change his name to Eric Lassard to get a promotion.
July 29, 201214 yr We were told on this site that Chalerm badged his own son, at 8.13am. Now who is bullshitting? -mel.
July 29, 201214 yr if the rival party became the government, his son would certainly be transferred to serve in the restive South. It is just sick the way he agrees how corrupt the system is (or all them are)
July 29, 201214 yr It does not take a real bight person to deduct that the boy is a loose cannon. He may have seen 'the hand writting on the wall', as far as his future in the army. The police force, under daddy's thumb sounds about right for him and his kind. Doubt if there any tears being shed at the decision??? of such a individual, by the army. There may have been some encourgement even.
August 1, 201214 yr Did he actually get convicted for that Night Club killing? If not, why did he flee the country?
August 1, 201214 yr Did he actually get convicted for that Night Club killing? If not, why did he flee the country? He fled the country so arrangements could be made to ensure that he wouldn't be convicted.
