Moving House - Notify Immigration

Featured Replies

I've done some searching on the forum and what I read is that if you change address you must notify immigration (or the police) of your new address within 24 hours .

Most people indicate they have never done this and the rule isn't enforced.

I'd be grateful for any comments and advice?

I'm 50, on a retirement visa, married to a Thai, living and moving within Nakorn Ratchasima province. My 90 day reporting is 12th Aug and I move 1st Aug!

Thanks.

If you are staying in a private home the home owner must report to the police that you are staying at their address. Failing to do so could result in a fine to the homeowner.

You are correct, we are suppose to inform the police of any address change and the rule is probably not strictly enforced.

I think you should do your reporting after you have moved with new address. You could report your new address to the local police after you move, so it is recorded, up to you.

Korat Immigration can be not so nice if they want to be.

Normally immigration will want it at the next 90 day report rather than needing a special trip. Nothing hurt in advising local police but suspect most do not and they may not be aware of the requirement.

When I moved about four years ago I just put in new address when I did my next 90-day report. Ths in in Phuket, moved from one place in Phuket to another about 1 km away. No questions, no hassles at Immigration.

Based on retirement normally not a problem, based on marriage to a Thai it can be advisable to report, although even then reporting is rare.

I suspect that if you are moving within the jurisdiction of a single Immigrations office, advising on the next 90-day report would suffice, however, if you are moving to a different Immigrations office's jurisdiction area, it might be advised to file a TM.28?

I moved home earlier this year. I actually asked one of the immigration officers at the 90 day report counter at Chaengwattana what I should do as I would be moving home shortly after making my report. I was told to simply report my new address when I made my next 90 day report.

I think this varies from office to office. At the old Suanplu, no one was interested and told me to go away. At Nonthaburi I was told just to put it on my next 90 days report. At Pathum Thani they took the change of address form, entered it into a ledger and clipped part of the form into my passport.

When I moved from one jurisdiction to another, it was about halfway through the 90-day period, so I filed a TM28 at Jomtien. The officer seemed very surprised to see it but didn't make any comment. The bonus for me was he re-started the clock on my 90 days.
