Education Visa After 3 Years Valid To Apply For Pr?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am an Indian national planning to move to Bangkok, Thailand. 2 questions I'd highly appreciate your help on:

1) When I receive an ED (Education) visa for Thailand to study the Thai language for one year at a time (including the visa runs I believe) and I stay for a total of 3 years plus, AM I ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR A PR (Permanent Residence) VISA under the Investment scheme or any other options on 3 years completion? Does the stay on ED visa for 3 years plus make me eligible to apply for PR or do I need to be on a Non-Immigration Visa to qualify for a PR visa?

2) Am I correct when I state that I can rent a studio/1bedroom apartment in bangkok for 10000-15000 Baht / month?

Thank you so much for your help in advance!

Best Regards

If you have paid tax for working then you can apply for PR, and if your visa is one where you have to do visa runs then you cannot apply, you need 3 years of extensions within Thailand

And to your follow up question on accomadation, yes you can

On an ED-visa you cannot work, so you will not have an employment history and cannot apply for PR. Same goes with investment, you wil not have an employment record.

Thanks guys for your inputs! Highly appreciate your responses:

1) What are the types of visa that one can get for 3 years which enable you to apply for PR? Based on your inputs a Work visa where a company sponsors you would be one type. Any others apart from marriage visa?

I plan to invest the amount as outlined by the Thai ministry under the "Investment" visa section.

Thank you!

You would need to be on 3 years of work permits and been paying tax on and believe the magic salary number is 80k/m or their abouts

You dont get a 3 year visa in Thailand per se, its annual renewal

Getting PR is not just about being on the correct visa etc, you have to be able to speak Thai to a certain degree, be a person of standing etc...research the threads on TV, plenty on here about the process of PR

No visa allowing application for PR. Only one year extensions of stay count for that process and they are issued for reasons outlined in police order 777/2551

Camerata's Guide To The Permanent Residence Process

I plan to invest the amount as outlined by the Thai ministry under the "Investment" visa section.

An extension of stay based upon investing 10 million baht or more is possible.

See clause 2.5 of this police order: Thai Police Order 777/2551

Info on PR is not clear but is mentioned in this document. http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/doc/residence/26122546_regulation_notice_en.pdf
