When Should I Get My Visa?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. Planning a Thailand trip 6 months from now and I'm wondering when should I get my visa? Would it be better to get one now or wait till my trip date is closer to acquire one. I'm really excited about this trip and what to make the proper preparation so everything can go smooth.

Also I just want to add that I'm 25 and from the US.

Your Visa's time limit will start on the day it is issued so wait as long as possible.

If you get it now it will expire before you travel.

Thanks! Also should I get the visa when I have already traveled over to Thailand or should I get it at an embassy in the US?

If your total trip is 30 days or less there is no need for a visa. But visa can not be obtained in Thailand so you should get before your planned travel if you need.

You may be able to get your visa from the nearest Thai consulate or embassy, but as I understand it, you must use your visa within 90 days of issue, otherwise it will expire. You would need to have booked return ticket before you apply, I'm not sure if they would want to see an itinery or not.

Happy travels.
