I currently have a multi entry visa based on marriage. This is where i exit Thailand every 90 days. At present i go to Laos. Pass through immigration, turn round and go back into Thailand.

Do i need to renew my passport at least 6 months before my passport expiry date. As i understand you can not travel if your passport expires in 6 months or less.

Also, is there a step by step guide here on British passport renewals.

There is a 6 month requirement but it is not always enforced. I suggest you renew it early.

UK passports are done via Hong Kong passport center.

You need six month validity because of Laos - Thailand allows using passport valid for period of stay. So yes to enter Laos you muast must be valid for at least six months.

For UK procedure refer to the UK Embassy Wed site - you apply with copies of present passport to Hong Kong ( do not send passport).
