Need Official Translation Of Us Passport

Recommended Posts

In need of an official translation of my US passport into Thai. Anyone know of an office in Chiang Mai where we can get this done?

We are in Chiang Mai very frequently so looking to maybe have it done there, rather then in Chiang Rai which while closer to home, we travel there less frequently.

Many thanks

Your name is your name, translate to what? Date of birth is international as is issue date and expiry date, Country of citizenship USA is also international. There is nothing really to translate.. You have me puzzledrolleyes.gif

There again I am often puzzled hereermm.gif

It's translated to Thai whenever it is used as part of a visa application for a spouse, a passport for a child, many other official documents. I assume all foreign governments would require Thai passports to be translated to their respective languages for official purposes. I've had to do that for a visa application for my fiance and for my Thai born sons' American passport. (His mother's passport, who was not my fiance)

It is not necessary to get a passport translated for any visa application.

My wife has had many visas for other countries and not once was a translation required, also my Mother in Laws passport was not translated, this was at the British and Swiss Embassies.

Even for an extension or visa for Thailand an American passport would not need to be translated, the only place I have heard of asking for such a thing is the office when you go for a Yellow Book

You obviously know best.

I was simply going to point out that passports over the last 5 or so years are now known as biometric (e passports). They carry all the data and information to authenticate any traveller throughout the world, in a micro chip embedded in the back cover.

there appears to be about 80% of countries who are able to do the international read of epassports.

SO language obviously not a barrier.

Thailand is included (though Myanmar, Laos, Indo not yet)

5 yr ago,the first biometrics identified you just with the photo, face scanning at the border control, but I think new applicants have to or are given option of fingerprint ID and retinal scan.

I would say unless you have the old version passport, then your plight may not altogether be necessary.

check the front of your passport, it will have a small microchip logo on it.
