My Passport Is Kept Hold By A Doctor In Thailand. Who Shall I Report To?

Featured Replies

My plastic surgeon in Thailand kept my passport as I only paid a partial fund for my plastic surgeries. We have agreed that I would pay the rest of the money when I am satisfied with the results and he will return my passport on the day.

Now, I am not satisfied with the results at all!!! He does not want to correct anything, I am flying back soon in 7 days. However, he is keeping my passport. What shall I do? Is it illigal to keep someone's passport in Thailand? Shall I report this to Thai police?

  • Will Thai police get involved in helping me to get my passport back? I have 2 visas in my passport so it is very complicated if I have to do everything again!

Also who shall I report this bad plastic surgeon to? I have searched around but I could not find any medical associations. Shall I also report him to police? Please help!

Your passport belongs to your government and should not be used for any purpose other than passing through borders. In LOS you are ''supposed'' to carry it at all times. Think you have created your own problem. sad.png

you never give your passport to anyone, now you have a big problem, you could be arrested for lack of Identification if asked by the Police

^^^What transam said.

If I were you, I would pay the plastic surgeon and get your passport back ASAP, before things get worse.

Pay...he didn't trust you to pay the invoice and right he was....

The Thai police would be happy to get involved .... To help the doctor get the money he deserves from you not to help you get your passport back for free......... Even if you don't see it that way.

Since you are not satisfied why would he return it ? You agreed that he could hold it until you were.

No sensible doctor is going to agree to free care unless you are satisfied because most people that do that are NEVER satisfied and have numerous procedures over thier life and are still not happy.

Pay your bill and stop pretending it's all someone elses fault because you are not happy with yourself.

PS ...... Not paying your bill is a lot more serious charge than holding a passport of someone who doesnt pay , you better hope he doesn't call the police on YOU ....... He's a Doctor, you are a tourist asking for his help but refusing to pay because now you claim you know more than he does about if you got what you paid for .... who do you think will win that battle ?

If you bought a new car, paid 50% on it, drove it around for a while and decided you were not satisfied with it and stop payments - what would you expect to happen?

The mistake, as his been pointed out, is giving the passport as collateral which in effect could be considered illegal as you have no proper form of ID now.

Giving your passport as security for plastic surgery? There will always be times when expectations are not met with plastic surgery. Unless your nose was moved to your chin or an eyeball ended up in the middle of your forehead, you need to pay the doc and get your passport back.

Don't you need a new passport for your new look anyway?

Speak to your embassy for advice as it's illegal for anyone to hold your passport, Whether they would actually take any action is another story given it's common knowledge not to hand over your passport to anyone as a surety. Do you have a written agreement in place with the doctor for partial payment, subject to satisfactory outcome? More than likely you are "over the barrel" given you need to leave Thailand within seven days.

Don't think he can as what he did was stupid and the embassy knows the passport belongs to the the government, not to him. sad.png .

Actually two other topics besides this one but missed them. Thanks for the heads up.

Will close this topic as it is not Travel related per se and one of the others that has few responses. Can continue here - http://www.thaivisa....geon-to-police/
