1 Way Ticket ? Australia

Is it compulsary for thai citizens entering australia on tourist visa ( hopefully 6 months) to have return ticket? or can they enter on a one way ticket, my nephew will be staying with me not sure of return date but within 6 months of entry.

Yes you need a return ticket,this is because if you get refused entry to the country you can get home,if not the airline must pay to return you back to the country you came from,normally you pay to change the date u want to return if your not sure when u will return;)

Just do what I did and book a return ticket (not with Thai Air) with 6 months or 1 year validity then you can change the return date with no penalty

perhaps you dont. i mean we paid for a return for 6mth holiday visa but on the 9mth fiancee visa we didnt and wernt questioned over it. why do you have to have a return ticket? if the embassy have given a 6 mth visa they trust you will return so therefore shouldnt it be up to you?

ps, it will be cheaper in long run to buy all in 1 hit though.

a case officer in Bkk and a return ticket is not compulsory or necessary.

I don't think anyone would be refused entry for not having a return ticket.

Just make sure your nephew has your phone number so if DIAC have

any questions, they can come and get you, assuming you're at the airport.

Agree, you do not have to have a return ticket to travel overseas from Thailand to Australia at least.

I took my girlfriend to OZ the first time on a return ticket as I was under the impression that we were both covered by medical and accident insurance by booking on my Platinum card.

I then found out that you were only covered by booking from Australia - Return on the Card.

I then booked both of us one way to OZ on a Tourist Visa and had no problems at either end.

Since then we have travelled to Thailand - Return OZ on the card and all medical and accidents are now covered.

On a Platinum Card you are covered for 6 month and in case of a situation where you cant get out of the country at the end of the 6 months period, they cover you for the 7th month or the earliest flight out.

Thanks for replys,he will hopefully be accompianing me on my return flight with thai in late oct, now to the other side of my question, opening time for visa office (cc tower), I assume it would be best to get there early as possible, & if paperwork in order could the formalities be over in 1 day,(ie. go back home await passport)

You do not need a return ticket to obtain a visa. In fact, the Australian Embassy advises you - NOT TO BUY A TICKET UNTIL A VISA IS ALREADY GRANTED.

However, the immigration officer in Australia at point of entry may ask you if you have a return ticket. If you simply state that you are buying one in Australia because it is cheaper, - they are usually OK.

I actually bothered to check (for my mother in law) and since being told you do NOT need a return or onward ticket she has travelled to Australia multiple times on a one way ticket on her tourist visas.

A visa to any country does not necessarily guarantee admission on arrival - especially with a one-way ticket

This may help...proof of adequate funds is what you maybe asked when you arrive and what your itinary is etc...etc..Australian immigration have got a reputation of being tough at times..

If you have a visa 676 it would be advisable to have a confirmed return ticket. It will depend on your visa. eg a 309 or a 100 visa do not require a return ticket.

It is the reponsibility of the airline to do these checks, if they are not sure they contact DIAC in Canberra, ACT.

If you extend your visa while in Australia ie, a new visa, you will have to provide proof of a valid airline ticket out of Australia.

You may be questioned by Customs and Border Protection but this normal. Remember DIAC approved your visa in the first instance. All your information is on the DIAC data base.

The airline may not allow you to board if you only have a single one way ticket and have a 676 visa.　

Qantas and Cathay Pacific will check your visa.

All good, I'll make enquires here & BKK passport office, as I don't want any problems, now just to answer other ques, what is the earliest time we can get to CC tower immigration office, be there for 0900hrs? & if paperwork in order, could the processing side be over with in 1 day?, then await reply up to 10days, is that the way it works?
