Iphone Personal Hotspot

Featured Replies

Used to be able to do this with wifi as well... but presently, when you turn on personal hotspot, it automatically defaults to 3G. Anyone experiencing the same thing?

TIA!

I think you're misunderstanding something - Personal Hotspot means "create a WiFi hotspot using your 3G (or 2G) connection"

You can't create a WiFi hotspot from another WiFi hotspot on the iPhone, nor would that be very useful. And no, it wasn't possible before, either.

Works the same way on an Android-based phone....the mobile data connection is used to create a Wifi HotSpot; not a Wifi connection being used to create another Wifi connection (HotSpot).

And your Personal Hotspot can be shared using WiFi, Bluetooth or USB.

Sorry... maybe I was not clear.

I am a True user so I get "free" True wifi at the malls.

As some of my friends are on pay-per-use... when we are at the malls, I used to be able to connect to True wifi, then turn on the personal hotspot and share the True wifi, through my phone, for the rest.

I can no longer do that.

How do you know you were sharing the True WiFi, and not your own 3G connection? Did you use Airplane mode with WiFi on? Do you not have a data plan? Were you sharing your WiFi connection over Bluetooth / USB?

If this did work before somehow, Apple's own docs indicate that it doesn't... so it never was an official feature
