Fishing Boat Worker Missing for Two Days Found Dead Floating in Sea
Picture courtesy of Matichon. A fishing worker who had been missing for two days was discovered dead, floating in the sea in the area off the mouth of the Maeklong River, Samut Songkhram province. The body of 41-year-old Maung Win, a Myanmar national, was found by local authorities late afternoon of April 2. He had been working on a fishing boat but went missing two days prior. His colleagues had searched for him without success. The body was located approximately 10 nautical miles from Don Hoi Lot, floating face down and in an early state of decomposition. He was wearing only a pair of shorts and no shirt. Authorities, including rescue personnel from the Samut Songkhram Benjatham Foundation, were dispatched to the scene to recover the body. After bringing it to the Sathathatham Temple for further examination, an initial investigation indicated that Maung Win may have fallen overboard and drowned. The body has been sent to the Nakhon Pathom Hospital’s Forensic Department for a thorough autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Fire Breaks Out in Engine Compartment of Pattaya-Suvarnabhumi Airport Bus Emergency responders from the Motorway Rescue Unit, Department of Highways, were alerted to a fire on a Pattaya–Suvarnabhumi Airport passenger bus. Fire Breaks Out in Engine Compartment of Pattaya-Suvarnabhumi Airport Bus
Picture from responders. Emergency responders from the Motorway Rescue Unit, Department of Highways, were alerted to a fire on a Pattaya–Suvarnabhumi Airport passenger bus. The incident occurred on Motorway Route 7, outbound to Bangkok, near the Pong Toll Plaza at kilometre 118+300 in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. Upon arrival, officials found the Rung Rueang Company bus, route 389-3, with registration number from Chonburi, parked on the roadside. The driver, Mr Amarit Sodklang, 44, successfully extinguished the fire in the engine compartment using the bus’s onboard fire extinguisher. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. All Thai and foreign passengers were safely transferred to another vehicle to continue their journey to Suvarnabhumi Airport without further disruption. Mr Amarit recounted that while driving from Pattaya to Suvarnabhumi Airport, he heard a horn from a vehicle behind him and noticed that the engine temperature was rising. Acting swiftly, he pulled over and detected a burning smell from the rear of the bus. He immediately evacuated all passengers before using the fire extinguisher to contain the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with Rung Rueang Company arranging for a tow truck to transport the bus for further examination. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the incident to prevent future occurrences. -- 2025-04-03 -

Patong Police Crack Down on Illegal Employment: Seven Arrested

The operation, led by Colonel Chalermchai Hearnsawat, focused on a construction site located at 162/37 Phra Metta Road, Patong. Authorities detained one Thai national on charges of illegally employing foreign workers, along with six Chinese nationals who were allegedly working without valid permits. The arrested individuals were taken into custody and transferred to Patong Police Station, where they will face further legal proceedings. Officials have not yet disclosed whether additional charges will be filed against those involved. This incident comes amid shifting trends in Phuket’s labour market. Previously Burmese workers have been seen securing official employment, while Chinese labourers are now increasingly being found working without proper documentation. The arrests raise questions about the patterns of illegal employment in the region.
