Anyone Have An Unwanted/Unused Bike?

I've put an ad in classifieds, but just on the off chance that anyone has one lying around (I know all about good intentions giggle.gif)

My husband is looking for a road or mountain bike, doesn't matter which but it needs to be fairly good quality. However, he doesn't want one of those that cost thousands of dollars back home - I saw one in a shop in Aus last year for $7,000 and thought it was a mistake with the decimal point until I saw several at $5-6,000. Well, he may want one, but he'll never get his backside on one.

Please PM or if anyone can recommend a good 2nd hand bike shop I will be grateful (on his behalf).

Thanks in advance

Your hubby may find that a new bike is quite affordable in chiang Mai. Have you had a look in Big C or Tesco Lotus?

The bikes in Tesco and BigC are of very dubious quality. I bought a full suspenion

one and it fell to pieces and rusted up in a matter of weeks.

I was lucky that it got stolen.

Saw a mountain bike in LA bikes Mahidol for 5,000 baht, looked OK with front and rear suspension, disc brake on the front, but of course not as robust as something a bit pricier.

Is hubby looking for a road bike to use in triathlons or something to use as basic transportation?

Thanks for taking the time, I realised after posting I should have included the following. Strictly around town only - basically to the gym and back.

Walking would be a better exercise. Give him a all around work out. When I wasn't working in the winter back home I would go to the gym every day. A tread mill was part of my program. When I went back to work it would take me two or three days to get used to it. My work involved a lot of walking.

They both gave me the cardio but the real walking required different muscles than on a machine.

Jogging back & forth to the gym would be better still. But the topic was where to get a bike, not whether to get a bike.

Not bad one right one wrong. The topic is where to get a bike I stand corrected. Walking is far better on your joints than jogging

For a bike starting at Thai Pa gate walk due west until you come to a t in the road. Big nice temple in the way.

Any how turn Left and go down that street not sure how far but there is a bike shop on your Left hand side. I think it is pricey but on previous threads there has been several shops mentioned. It might be a good starting point for you.

I agree walking is best, but he walks 3 or 4 hours every day - he often gets hopelessly lost down soi's and sub-soi's. I've sent a message to the cheaper one on Craiglist, never crossed my mind to look there, so thank you for the heads up KRS1
