Extension Of 30 Day Visa Exempt Based On Marriage.

Featured Replies

I made some inquiries at Pattaya Immigration earlier this year, i was told that despite being married I will still only get 7 days extension.

Due to the time scale involved I needed a month, a visa company was offering 1, 2 or 3 months, what they call a special visa, price around 8000 baht for a month, I have done this on 2 or 3 occasions now.

A friend of mine in the same situation, British, married, on the same 30 day on arrival exempt, went to immigration and applied for extension, he got an extension of 30 days, cost 1900 baht.

This has left me a little bit bewildered, has anyone else been able to extend in similar circumstances ?.

Thanks for any advice,

justsignedin.

You can get a 60 day extension based on having a Thai Spouse.

Fee 1,900 Baht.

No idea about the other options you mentioned but sounds rather dodgy and expensive.

2.24 In the case of an alien

visiting a Thai spouse or child:

Permission

will be granted for a period of not more than 60 days at a time

(1) Proof of relationship.

(2) In the case of a spouse, their marital relationship shall be de

jure (legitimate) and de facto.

Thanks again Lite Beer, can't belive I've wasted all that money with visa companies, and don't understand why immigration said I can only get 7 days.

Did they know you wanted an extension to visit wife and was she with you? Otherwise you would only be able to get the 7 days. Or did you ask a non immigration helper and they were not aware what you wanted by chance? The 60 day extension is routine to visit Thai wife or child.

Hi Lopburi, I asked a certain farang who helps at the desk, explicitly explained my situation to him and what I wanted to do.
