Canon 1Dx In Bangkok - How Much?

Featured Replies

Does anyone knows how much would cost the new Canon 1Dx in Bangkok.

Usually the reference price comes from FotoFile in MBK.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Seconded.

A mate bought a Canon 400mm f2.8 from this website in Malaysia.

Very good price about £6300. Canon 1DX is just over £4000.

Probably going to have a spend up soon and would prefer not to have to travel to Malaysia if the deal is right.

I remember seeing the 1DX at the top floor Canon branch of Fotofile about a month ago, don't remember what price they had listed. I want to say 240k, but I could be way off.

World Camera has it for 219,000. dam_n cheap, considering the D4 is going for 209k, when the difference between the two should be around 25-30,000 if I did my math correctly (comparing to MSRPs).

If only Canon had gotten off their butts and delivered the 1dx five months ago, I'd be shooting that instead of Nikon. Grmble.

Is that 219,00 before you get 7% (approx?) back at the airport?

RAZZ

Yeah, should be. Only applicable though if you tell them when you buy it, you fill the paperwork accurately, and leave within 30 days and haven't been in thailand for more than 180 out of the last 365 days (I think).

If that's good, then you save 15k baht, effectively making your 1Dx cheaper than my D4, even though it's supposed to be about $800 more expensive. Hmph.

I'll have to work the numbers out...

I've only ever bought a laptop and claimed the money back at the airport...

Apparently you only get up to 10,000 baht in "cash" anything more has to get paid onto a bank/credit card...which would be a pain.

If I have a "spend up" and buy a couple and a few lenses it will probably still be worth going to Malaysia and having a short holiday.

Although I'm not too sure what the "stock" situation is like there...I don't fancy handing over my money and waiting a week for delivery...

Do you know any prices on long lenses? Can't see any on that site?

Depends on what you're looking for. You mean a 70-200 or a 500/4? Fotofile has all that stuff, some used as well to save a big wad.

Looking for a new 400 2.8 mk2 or the new 500 f4 mk2 or the soon to be released 200-400.

P.S. Was Canon for many years, had D3s's for the last two and bit...Nikon are great cameras but build quality is terrible...probably gonna change back to Canon.

Air travel with superteles is a bitch. I think it'd be easier to go overland to a neighbouring country (next to your home, not Thailand) as most places will arrange vat refunds anyway.

I can't seem to get the URL but on Craigslist someone is selling a 400/2.8 mark 1 for 169k, about half the fotofile rate for a mark 2.

Had a Canon 400 f2.8 mk1 IS before and now got a Nikon.

Looking at the mk 2 because it's "just about" hand -holdable.

Whats the Canon shop like at the top of MBK? Is it owned directly by Canon or by Fotofile? Decent prices?

BTW thanks for your help! smile.png

I believe it is owned by Fotofile, although they do operate a Canon service desk from there. They were the only place I found in BKK that stocked the big teles, although that was a couple of years ago and nowadays World Camera has much more of a presence; their store in Central World is well stocked and maybe able to give you an alternative source and pricing (although they don't go any longer than the 300mm on their website and the price is higher than Fotofile; but they do seem more willing to give discount).

  • 3 weeks later...

Bump.

Anyone got the latest prices?
