Samui airport has a runway roughly North to South and both directions are over the sea for take off and landing.

Most Airports (even Heathrow which is landlocked) have Zodiac high speed rescue boats in case of a crash into the water,

even a lake or gravel pit.

As each end of the Samui runway is sea the odds are that in the event of a serious mishap on take off or landing that it will be a watery ending. It seems to me that having the modern fire trucks on the airport is great but mostly confined to dealing with an accident on the runway, as each end

is water and should be supplemented by something which can be rapidly deployed into the sea..

In the event of a serious incident it would be more relaxing to know that there were a few Zodiac rescue Ribs around.

The same applies for Phuket (or did a couple of years ago) and when the authorities were questioned the response was that

they would be able to get the local fishermen involved in a very short time. Hardly reassuring.

Bangkok Airways Boutique Zodiac rescue Ribs, wonder if they would charge for picking you out of the water, wouldn't surprise me.
