Ministers In Yingluck Govt To Announce Their Achievements: One Year In Office

During the one-year performance statement, ICT Minister Anudith Nakornthap declared the ministry’s integration of all IT systems of the government and distribution of free tablet PCs as two of its major achievements in the past year.

Really..... our local Gov schools haven't seen a single tablet PC yet and half of the classrooms don't have a working power outlet.

Well I hope you made that point clear when the dems where in power (excuse the pun). You'd have thought they could have managed to wire up a few classrooms in their two and a half year tenure or were they distracted by the perpetually rioting red shirts for their entire term?

It's ok, they've achieved 1.4% of their pledged numbers,

The remaining 98.6% should be satisfied with that as a "major achievement".

You're not alone.

Given that the tablets were a PTP promise, it would have been a good idea if they schools had the infrastructure to deal with them.

Meanwhile, over in another ministry.... we learn of a new scheme that I eagerly await news of its achievement in next year's report of achievements.

This latest scheme of Yingluck's Cabinet sounds vaguely familiar in name and intent as an earlier Thaksin scheme...

Does this new idea ring a bell for anyone else?

Thaksin, Ver. 4.0 rolls on....

Commerce Ministry’s “1 Province, 1 Product” campaign to boost local creations

BANGKOK, 31 August 2012 (NNT) – The Commerce Ministry has initiated a new project to promote local product creations among Thai people.

Permanent Secretary for Commerce Yanyong Phuangrach said on Thursday that the ministry-initiated “1 Province, 1 Product” campaign was introduced for the first time to encourage Thai people to work harder in developing their top product or service.

In doing so, each province has been asked to identify the best product to be marketed while product owners are guided in brand positioning and consumer marketing, to help boost their competitiveness at the national level.

Mr. Yanyong said that the new initiative is hoped to help promote Thai products in a broader market while enabling local entrepreneurs to be more informed in the area of marketing and to make more money.

The Permanent Secretary for Commerce said that 80 products from 76 provinces have been selected for the pilot project.

These items have been separated into 6 groups, including decorative items, souvenirs, textile and garment, non-food herb, farm and processed agricultural products, food and beverages, and service.

Mr. Yanyong said that the event, which is the first of its kind and held at Central Plaza Rattanathibet from August 30th to September 3rd, will generate around 10 million baht in local revenue.

It's Ok WB, I think most of us are getting used to the pathetic whine of 'well they did/didn't do it, so ner' .... it has become expected, as in most instances, it is the last straw to grasp.

Oh goody .......... if it's a lucky dip, I hope we get the beer province.

Sorry, it's the wooden frog croaker with a stick for you guys. :(

But don't feel bad, we got dried banana chips.

It'll bring in billions. Just like it did in 2002 with Thaksin.

.

I thought the scheme sounded familiar, there seem to have been a recent rush of relaunches, of clapped-out TRT-policies, with the corrupt rice-pledging scam scheme, and the 30-Baht hospital-treatment scheme, and the Thai Non-Elite Elite-Card once again being trotted-out as if they were wonderful new policies, rather-than failed/discredited/supersceded-already old ones.

Golden Oldies, if only they worked ! wink.png

a commonly-encountered grading scale system

studentGrades.jpg

In an interview yesterday on his son Oak's television channel, Voice TV, convicted fugitive Thaksin graded his sister's first year performance at "60-70%"

He went on to say that his younger sister "did better than expected"

He also admitted that the current PM Yingluck had consulted with him about reshuffling Cabinet positions.

A short while ago, Thaksin said that he talks with Yingluck everyday on the phone... and yet it seems like whenever Yingluck is asked something about her brother, she invariably mumbles something about not being in touch with him or not having discussed anything with him, or some other lame denial.

His admission also makes mincemeat of the nonsense his cousin, the Foreign Minister, was babbling the other day about how Thailand can't request an extradition on him primarily because they don't know where he is located.

300 minimum wage - only in 7 provinces

I not so sure raising the minimum wage is a good idea. I'm ALL FOR folks being about to make a decent living of course. The problem is the potential loss of manufacturing to neighboring countries. Now, if there was some way of making this dependent on the type of work done, perhaps it would be a better idea.

Even in the tourism sector however, this would end up meaning a price increase for tours and again, this could mean Thailand would be less appealing than other destinations. It's a Catch 22 thingy.

I don't have the answers, just the questions.

I tend to agree but I also believe who ever forms government after the PTP have finished sucking the treasury dry will have a mamoth job just finding enough revenue to run the government let alone taking some tea money for themselves. This may create the situation where politician run for office for the public good instead of self enrichment.

The economy will have been raped. No doubt about that, but the Dems will have superior brain power

Well thats a given Moruya, the dems are known for their superior brainpower, and there will be nothing left in the coffers as the robber barons of the PTP will see to that. Whats not to agree about?

One of the funniest things I have heard this week, and let's be honest, it has indeed been a week for hearing funny things, was Yingluck saying that she could not replace Kittirat because there was "nobody else"

Oddly enough, I can recall the same thing being said several years back, about then-PM Thaksin.

The claim was that there was nobody else, in the whole country, who might ever aspire to do the job just-as-well as he did ! wink.png

Now several PMs later, including two of them from his own family, it seems a fairly-ridiculous thing to have tried to claim.

And suddenly Thaksin's clone sister makes the very same claim, spooky isn't it ? Where can she have got the idea from ? laugh.png

Sukumpol: Ministry of Defence has given importance to all security issues during first year of Yingluck administration

BANGKOK, 1 September 2012 (NNT) - Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat, Minister of Defense, stated that he had attached importance to all security-related activities during his first year in office, but with a special focus on solutions to the southern violence.

According to him, over the past year under the Yingluck Shinawatra administration, the Ministry of Defense has continually carried out projects beneficial to the society which can be divided into seven fields.

One of the projects is the development and strengthening of the armed forces and the national defense potential, by drawing up a new defense strategy which is more in line with the changing circumstances. Another project is to protect the royal institution by developing an online system to prevent lese-majesty efforts and establish creative websites to honor the royal family.

The third project is resolving the southern unrest, which has been designated as an urgent mission in the government policy, and requires integrated cooperation among the 17 ministries. Other projects are focused on fostering relationships with neighboring countries, addressing natural disasters and dealing with narcotic spread. The Defence Ministry has actively supported both prevention and suppression of illicit drugs. The armed forces have also played an outstanding role in intercepting cross-border drug smuggling.

Surprised to hear you think it's "very beneficial".... as it strengthens the Army material procurement, sings praise to Chalerm's Internet War Room, and promotes a tougher Drug War.

Based on your previous posts, I would have thought you oppose those issues, but given the lack of any achievements by the Yingluck government, I can appreciate someone might want to change previous positions in order see something...anything... as "very beneficial".

another Cabinet ministry has a crack at it...

Education Ministry to present one-year performance

BANGKOK, 5 September 2012 (NNT) - The Ministry of Education is presenting its one-year performance report today, outlining its most urgent policies which include offering Bachelor degree programme studies at polytechnics and universities of applied sciences and implementing measures to ease the feuding of students.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra earlier assigned each ministry to report its achievements to the public to ensure that its important policies had been implemented in the first year of her administration.

Deputy Education Minister Sakda Kongpetch said today’s presentation will cover the ministry’s important agendas such as its plan to introduce bachelor degrees of vocational studies and the enrollment of feuding students into military camps and Buddhist seminars.

He elaborated that on the agendas will also be the ministry’s stricter admission criteria for universities, and its future plans to tackle shortage of teaching supply.

The Deputy Minister also responded to concerns surrounding the implementation of the government’s tablet scheme that the Education Council’s office is organizing handwriting contests and quizzes in classrooms.

"Education Ministry to present one-year performance"

May I suggest that the Minister for Education Prof. Dr. Suchart Thada-Thamrongvech start his report with a "philosophy' part of his January 2012 policy statement?

Police Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra has said about

education that "Education will lead to the building of people's vigour.

Vigorous and knowledgeable people are powerful capital to fight

with poverty." "Emphases must be on distribution of benefits with equity,

and on regards of people with difficulties, in order to provide quality

education for everyone." "Education is an important key, a starting

element that is necessary in making poverty become past."

The Pheu Thai Party Government shall take care of Thai people as

family members and not hurt them nor misapply their money. On education,

student-centred approach is committed. People's children will be taken

care as ours, and teachers as our relatives.

Therefore, the Ministry of Education must look after people, no

corruption, no cheating on students, no forcing on teachers and students to

welcome executives if not necessary, no drugs distributed among our children.

We must relax rules and regulations and other tasks outside teachinglearning.

We must get rid of money charges for post transfers or returns to

home towns of teachers. Criteria in assessment of teachers must be clear,

decreasing judgement. We must also decrease those debt tempting factors.

In education development, the Pheu Thai Party Government

emphasizes the philosophy of EQUITY and TECHNOLOGY application.

We will provide quality basic education for every youth in every area and

creating higher education students as professionals.

It started out under the Education Ministry.... when they boldly proclaimed tablet computers would be in the hands of all students in all grades....

amounting to some 11 Million tablets...

and that they would all have them as of four months ago...

Every student should have a tablet PC by May: Woravat

The government's One tablet PC per Child policy will be fully implemented by May, Education Minister Woravat Auapinyakul pledged yesterday.

http://www.thaivisa....by-may-woravat/

but then the procurement aspect was gobbled up by the ICT Ministry and the Education Ministry was left with implementing the program

after receipt and testing by the ICT gang.

With tabletPCs being real hi-tech it does make sense to have the MoS&T involved and by now the MoE may be happy to be able to shift the blame for this success a wee bit

I'm sure the Education Ministry would be all to happy to dump some of the blame of going from one tablet per child by last May to one tablet per 10 children by sometime in 2013

OTPC to OTP10C

to just about any other entity they possibly could

Culture Ministry’s one-year performance geared towards AEC

BANGKOK, 6 September 2012 (NNT) - Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplome has announced the ministry’s one-year performance, stressing its activities in honor of the monarchy and cultural cooperation in preparation for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.

Sukumol said on Thursday during the government’s one-year performance announcement that she had performed her duty to the best of her ability, with a focus on implementing the government’s policies on the monarchy, the southern conflict, the renovation of flood-damaged historical sites, and cultural heritage promotion.

Highlights of the ministry’s one-year performance include the celebration of 2,600 years of Buddha’s enlightenment or Buddha Jayanti, the promotion of Thai culture in foreign countries, ASEAN art camps for humanity, and cultural shows in the southern border provinces.

Sukumol said the cultural shows were aimed to help prepare the country for the AEC in 2015 and attract young people to take part in cultural affairs.
