Uk Dual National?

Featured Replies

hi all, Im 26 and currently live in the uk and have a British passport, my mother is Thai and lives in the uk also. My mother holds a Thai passport only, is it possible for me to get a Thai passport and Thai id also??

What would i have to do to get these??, Do i have to contact the British or Thai embassy??

Thanks in advance for any advise... i asked my mother but she was unsure after living in the uk for 26+ years.

As you have a Thai Mother you are also Thai.

I am not an expert on this but a good place to start would be The Thai Embassy.

Have you got your Birth Certificate?

You are Thai so it is possible.

It is still early in Thailand. So wait a while for other members to wake up and give more information.

If you were born in the UK, you can apply for a Thai birth certificate from the Thai embassy in London. You'll need evidence you were born of a Thai parent, so you'll have to ask them what documents you need.

At the same time, you should be able to apply for a Thai passport from the embassy. This will require an appointment.

You can then use this passport to enter and depart Thailand.

You won't be able to get an ID card until you go live in Thailand permanently, and for that you'll need to be registered on someones house book first. Be aware though that getting an ID card for a male before turning 30 makes you eligible for military conscription, so you may want to avoid this final step until the year you turn 30.

Thanks Samran.

^^thanks for the advise, i think i'll leave the id card till im 30 then.lol (thanks for telling me about this... my mother thanks you).

So when i have 2 passports which do i leave the uk on Thai or British??

Also if i leave on a short trip on the uk passport can i enter Thailand on the Thai one??

Leave and enter UK with UK Passport.

Enter and leave Thailand with Thai Passport.

At airline check-in you sow both passports, to confirm no visa is needed. At immigration only the passport for the country you are entering/leaving.
