August 27, 201213 yr I've just bought a second hand car which I'm happy with but bizarrely (its not so old) the paint on the reg plate is patchy. The numbers and letters are green - do I need to paint them green again - I want to paint them black... is the green colour of any significance? cheers to anyone who knows and regards to all on here LL
August 27, 201213 yr As far as l am aware, the green numbers are for commercial stuff. Think you must re-register for private use.
August 27, 201213 yr Green on white is for 2-door pickups (and I believe other small commercials), painting a different colour would likely attract the attention of the law. If you really want black then you need to re-register, higher tax rate if it's even possible. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
August 27, 201213 yr Thanks for the replies I'll get some green paint... cheers Some advice: Try to find a green felt tip, permanent ink. Fill in the letters with the felt pen. Do not use paint!!!!!!!
August 27, 201213 yr Isn't the different colour as others have said about the classification of the vehicle ? Work use, commercial , pick ups as opposed to passenger cars which are taxed higher which is where the trouble would come in ? On the subject though (sort of) in theory can you convert a pick up to a car by paying extra tax ?

August 27, 201213 yr Thanks. So it's higher purchase tax on cars than pick ups, but lower road tax/ compulsory insurance ?
August 27, 201213 yr Thanks. So it's higher purchase tax on cars than pick ups, but lower road tax/ compulsory insurance ? i guess it will depend on the cc and type of the vehicle and ownership (personal / company registered) .
